    Astros' Jose Altuve: Dealing with oblique discomfort

    Altuve was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to left oblique discomfort, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

    The severity of Altuve's injury is still unknown, but it's worth noting that Altuve missed four games in early June with a similar injury. The 33-year-old should be considered day-to-day going forward.

    Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Smacks 13th homer

    Torres went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run homer and two additional runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Orioles.

    Torres opened the scoring in the first inning Sunday with a two-run, 436-foot homer off Kyle Gibson before adding a two-out double in the seventh. The homer was Torres' first since June 18, as he's now up to 13 long balls on the year. Overall, the 26-year-old second baseman is now slashing .248/.325/.420 with 47 runs scored and 36 RBI across 354 plate appearances on the campaign.

    Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Sitting amid struggles

    Vargas is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Pirates.

    Mookie Betts will start at second base and bat leadoff versus the Pirates and right-hander Luis Ortiz. Vargas went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in Monday's series opener and is slashing just .197/.301/.369 through 294 plate appearances this season.

  • Red Sox's Enmanuel Valdez: Activated from Triple-A IL

    Valdez (thumb) was activated from the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

    Valdez hurt his left thumb a couple weeks ago but is ready to return to game action. He had been hitting well before getting hurt and, if he can pick up where he left off, could position himself for a promotion at some point.

    Pirates' Liover Peguero: Promoted to Triple-A

    Peguero was promoted Tuesday to Triple-A Indianapolis, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

    Peguero is moving up a level after slashing .260/.333/.453 with 11 home runs and 19 stolen bases over 69 games this summer at Double-A Altoona. The 22-year-old infielder made his MLB debut in a one-game stint last season and could get a more extended look with the Pirates down the stretch here in 2023.

    Altuve was scratched from Tuesday's lineup, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

    It appeared as though Altuve injured something during pregame batting practice, as he was seen walking into the clubhouse with bench coach Joe Espada after tweaking something. The Astros are expected to provide an update on the star second baseman later Tuesday.

    Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Out of lineup Tuesday

    Marte is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Mets.

    Geraldo Perdomo is playing second base and batting leadoff. Nick Ahmed will start at shortstop and hit eighth. This appears to be a planned day of physical and mental rest for Marte, who went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Sunday's series finale versus the Angels.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Goes deep twice in win

    India went 3-for-6 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Nationals.

    India opened the scoring Tuesday with an RBI single in the first inning before socking a pair of two-run homers later in the contest. The 26-year-old India had been struggling a bit at this dish, going 2-for-22 (.091) in his prior six games. However, he's been productive in the power department -- he now has seven home runs in his last 21 games despite going 16-for-82 (.195) in that span. Overall, India's slashing .255/.344/.426 with 13 homers, 64 runs scored, 48 RBI and 12 stolen bases through 381 plate appearances this year.

    Rays' Brandon Lowe: Returns from injured list

    Lowe (back) was activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

    Lowe has been sidelined for the last month with a herniated disc in his back, an injury which he battled for a large chunk of last season, as well. However, he's ready to go now after playing five rehab contests. Lowe had posted a .696 OPS with nine home runs in his first 50 games before getting hurt.

  • Danny Mendick 3B | CHW

    Mets' Danny Mendick: Sent back to Triple-A

    The Mets optioned Mendick to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

    Mendick went 0-for-7 with zero walks and one strikeout during his 10-day stay in the majors. DJ Stewart will take his place on New York's bench.
