  • Joe Perez 3B | PIT

Astros' Joe Perez: Joins big-league roster

Perez was called up by the Astros on Friday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Perez has never played a game at the Triple-A level, but this is already his second major-league call-up of the season. He spent two days on the roster during the first series of the season while Yuli Gurriel was on the paternity list and will now replace Yordan Alvarez, who landed on the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move. Perez made a single pinch-hit appearance in his previous stint on the roster and is likely in line for similar usage this time around.

  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

White Sox's Jake Burger: Drives in one

Burger went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Thursday's loss to the Mariners.

Burger was fortunate to tally an RBI as he popped up with a runner on third base in the fifth inning, though it fell in after wind moved the ball significantly. While that wasn't a particularly well-struck ball, Burger has recorded three hits, two RBI and a run scored across his last two starts. Burger has begun the season in a part-time role at third base, though he could pick up additional playing time if Josh Harrison (back) remains out of the lineup.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Not starting Thursday

Chapman isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Chapman started in each of the first six games of the season and hit .190 with a homer, a double, four RBI and two walks. Santiago Espinal will take his place at the hot corner while Cavan Biggio starts at second base Thursday.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Picks up start versus lefty

Walls will start at third base and bat ninth in Thursday's game against the Athletics, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Walls will pick up his third start in four games, but he still looks to be a short-side platoon player who plays only occasionally against right-handers. With southpaw Cole Irvin on the mound for Oakland on Thursday, Walls will enter the lineup as an indirect replacement for the lefty-hitting Ji-Man Choi.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Homers, stays hot at plate

Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a two run home run and three RBI in the win over the Reds on Wednesday.

Ramirez got hit by a Nick Lodolo curveball with the bases loaded in the top of the second inning, driving in Austin Hedges. The third baseman later took Lodolo deep in the fourth inning, driving in two more runs. Ramirez is now up to three homers and an eye-popping 14 RBI through six contests this season. Now locked up with a long-term contract with the Guardians, the 29-year-old appears to be setting the groundwork for another MVP-caliber season in 2022.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Mariners' Abraham Toro: Gets third straight start

Toro will start at second base and bat leadoff Wednesday against the White Sox, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Toro doesn't have a clear path to an everyday role, but his ability to swing between second and third base will allow him to pick up his third consecutive start. He'll be filling in at the keystone Wednesday for the lefty-hitting Adam Frazier, who is taking a seat with southpaw Dallas Keuchel on the mound for Chicago.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Slugs first homer of 2022

Rendon went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Marlins.

He turned on an inside slider from Tanner Scott in the sixth inning to give the Angels a 3-1 lead. The blast was Rendon's first of the season, and after an injury-plagued 2021, the 31-year-old is trying to return to the form that saw him post an OPS better than .900 in four straight seasons from 2017-20.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Eight total bases Tuesday

Ramirez went 3-for-5 with a triple, a grand slam and six total RBI in Tuesday's win over the Reds. He was also caught stealing.

Ramirez tripled on a blooper to shallow left-center, the result of Nick Senzel and Tommy Pham colliding in the outfield. His grand slam in the ninth, which broke the game open for Cleveland, was no cheapie. Ramirez is batting .429 in the early going.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Mariners' Eugenio Suarez: Delivers first homer with Seattle

Suarez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the White Sox.

The 30-year-old started the scoring during the second inning with a 364-foot homer to left field, but Seattle's offense wouldn't scratch across another run until the final frame. Suarez went 0-for-4 in his first two games with the Mariners but has showed some life in his past two contests, going 3-for-8 with a home run and a double.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Boston's hottest bat

Devers went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Detroit.

Overshadowed by the team's .173 batting average entering the game, Devers' hot start has gone unnoticed. The third baseman singled in Boston's first run, then knocked in the game-winning tally in the eighth inning. "He knows what's going on," manager Alex Cora told Dana Wakiji of MLB.com. "Even in the last at-bat... instead of trying to do too much, he saw the ball, hit it up the middle. That's what good hitters do and we have a good one." Devers has at least one hit in all five games thus far and is batting .381/.409/.619 through 23 plate appearances.
