  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Not starting Thursday

Candelario is not in the lineup Thursday against Cleveland.

Candelario has an excellent .306/.377/.613 line since returning from Triple-A Toledo in late June. He'll sit Thursday with Gordon Beckham getting the nod at the hot corner.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Carries offense in win

Devers went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and four RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays.

All three of his hits -- a solo shot in the third inning, a two-run double in the fourth and an RBI single in the eighth -- produced offense, with the last of the three delivering what ended up being the winning run. Devers is now slashing .326/.380/.558 with 18 homers and a career-high 70 RBI through 93 games in a breakout season for the 22-year-old.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Leaves with sore ankle

Chapman left Wednesday's game against the Mariners with a sore left ankle.

Chapman had fouled two pitches off his foot prior to leaving the game. The initial diagnosis of soreness suggests that Chapman isn't due for a lengthy absence, though it's possible the outlook changes after further tests. Chad Pinder and Jurickson Profar could fill in at third base if Chapman misses an extended period.

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Exits with possible injury

Chapman was removed from Wednesday's game with an apparent injury, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The reason behind Chapman's removal is not yet known, though it's worth noting that the third baseman was walking gingerly after fouling a pair of pitches off his foot in the first inning. Chad Pinder took over at third base for Chapman prior to the third inning, with Robbie Grossman entering the lineup in left field.

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Homers, knocks in five

Chapman led Oakland to a win over Seattle on Tuesday, going 3-for-4 with a homer, double and five runs batted in.

Chapman plated Oakland's first two runs with a single in the third inning, then knocked in two more with a home run in the fifth. He capped the offensive onslaught with a double in the seventh to drive home yet another run. The long ball brought Chapman's season total to 22, only two short of his career high. The 26-year-old is now slashing .278/.360/.554 with 59 RBI in 352 at-bats this season as he continues to cement his name near the top of the list of baseball's brightest young stars.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Rays' Matt Duffy: 'Couple more games' in minors

Duffy (hamstring) is slated to play two more games with Triple-A Durham this week before being reevaluated for possible activation, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Duffy has now played a pair of full games in the field at third base for the Bulls, and manager Kevin Cash acknowledges the infielder's current stretch of uninterrupted health is forcing the issue on a possible activation at some point this coming weekend. However, the Rays skipper also emphasized the team wants Duffy to get "a couple more games" under his belt in Durham before a final decision is made. Duffy has yet to play at the major-league level in 2019, and he also ended up missing all of 2017, his first Rays season, with an Achilles injury.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Not cooling off after break

Devers went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 10-8 win over the Blue Jays.

The All-Star break did little to cool off Devers' hot bat. The third baseman, who deserved to be an All-Star but wasn't, is 6-for-16 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored in the four games since the break.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Rays' Matt Duffy: Full game at third base

Duffy (hamstring) played all nine innings at third base for Triple-A Durham against Toledo on Monday and went 0-for-3 while also getting hit by a pitch.

Duffy has now played back-to-back full games in the field for the Bulls. The veteran infielder is up to 24 at-bats overall in the current phase of his rehab, just one short of the front end of the range the Rays had emphasized they'd like to see him hit before considering activation.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Jumps to Low-A

Jung was promoted to Low-A Hickory on Monday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The eighth-overall pick in the 2019 draft, Jung played in just four games at the rookie-league level, going 10-for-17 at the plate. He'll jump over short-season Spokane and head straight to full-season ball.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Rays' Matt Duffy: Close to rehab assignment benchmark

Duffy (hamstring), who received a day off in his rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Sunday and continues to remain free of setbacks, is just a handful of at-bats away from the 25-30 the Rays want to see him log before activation, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The veteran infielder likely has everyone in the organization crossing their fingers at this point, as it seems he's tantalizingly close to making his 2019 big-league debut. Duffy encouragingly played a full game at third base for the Bulls on Saturday, and with 21 at-bats since his rehab resumed July 4, he's as little as one game away from hitting the front end of the team's desired benchmark. Duffy is slated to play in Monday's game at minimum with Durham, but he could well be up with the major-league club by the end of the week.
