  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Sitting down Friday

Morel isn't in the Cubs' lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.

Morel will get a day to clear his head Friday after going 0-for-6 with four strikeouts during Chicago's previous series against the Brewers. Miles Mastrobuoni will start at the hot corner instead while batting seventh.

  • Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: Records three hits Thursday

Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Thursday's 6-4 win against the Giants.

Hernandez opened the scoring in the contest with a second-inning RBI single and added a run-scoring double in the fourth. The utility man has hit safely in four of his past six games and is slashing .318/.318/.545 with a home run, four RBI and four runs over that span. With the Dodgers' infield decimated by injuries to Mookie Betts (hand), Max Muncy (oblique), Miguel Rojas (forearm) and Chris Taylor (groin), Hernandez has had an opportunity to play nearly every day. He's started at shortstop or third base in each of Los Angeles' past five contests.

  • Marlins' Deyvison De Los Santos: Sent to Miami

De Los Santos was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Marlins along with Andrew Pintar in exchange for A.J. Puk on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

De Los Santos has always had plenty of raw power, and he's translated that to game action this season by posting a .324 ISO with Double-A Amarillo before being promoted to Triple-A Reno. He has 28 total home runs across 87 games between the two levels and could provide some needed thump to the middle of the Marlins order in the near future. For the time being, De Los Santos will likely report to Triple-A Jacksonville.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Giants' Matt Chapman: Reaches four times in win

Chapman went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers while also drawing two walks.

Chapman walked in his first plate appearance before launching a leadoff homer in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1. The third baseman would go on to reach base four times in the contest while also driving in multiple runs for only the second time this month. Following the two-hit performance, Chapman is still batting just .190 (12-for-63) in July with three homers, six RBI and 14 runs scored. He's also recorded at least one walk in three straight games.

  • Trey Lipscomb 3B | WAS

Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Exiting starting nine

Lipscomb is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Padres.

Ildemaro Vargas will get the nod at third base while Lipscomb retreats to the bench for the series finale. While starting in each of the Nationals' last nine games, Lipscomb recorded just six hits in 30 at-bats, bringing his batting average down to a .222 over 51 games with the big club. Lipscomb has made an impact on the bases (11 steals in 13 attempts), but the poor batting average and lack of power (.037 ISO) in his profile makes it difficult to mine much fantasy value from him outside of NL-only leagues or deeper mixed leagues.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Homers in return

McMahon went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday against Boston.

McMahon missed one game after jamming his finger Monday, but he returned Wednesday to tally his 15th home run of the season. He also ended a homer drought, as his previous long ball had come on June 22. In that span, McMahon managed to hit .259, but he had only five RBI and nine runs scored across 24 games.

  • Zack Short SS | HOU

Braves' Zack Short: Booted from 40-man roster

Atlanta designated Short for assignment Thursday.

Short's opportunities in Atlanta were few and far between, and he did little with what he was given, producing just a .478 OPS in 29 games. It's possible that the 29-year-old will draw some interest on waivers due to his defensive versatility.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Reinstated from paternity leave

Atlanta activated Riley (personal) from the paternity list Thursday.

Because of a pair of rainouts, Riley missed just one game while spending the maximum three days away from the team on paternity leave. He'll be back in the lineup for Atlanta's series opener Thursday against the Mets.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

Marlins' Jake Burger: Receiving Thursday off

Burger is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles.

Burger will head to the bench after he saw his eight-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-4, two-strikeout showing in Wednesday's 6-3 win. Emmanuel Rivera will spell Burger at third base in the series finale.

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Plates two in win

Marte went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 9-4 win over Atlanta.

Marte joined the Reds' party with a two-run double in the fourth inning. The struggling third baseman, who is batting .181 since he completed his 80-game PED suspension, has hit safely in four straight games (4-for-17).
