Bregman was removed from Sunday's game against the Reds after being struck in the face by a foul ball while in the on-deck circle, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

A check swing by Michael Busch resulted in an unusual trajectory for the foul ball, and Bregman had minimal time to protect himself. The veteran third baseman immediately headed to the clubhouse and was replaced by a pinch hitter. According to Montemurro, Bregman had a laceration, a bloody nose and a swollen cheek. He was sent to the hospital to be evaluated further.

Karros was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners due to back spasms.

Karros was penciled in at third base but will instead remain on the bench due to the back issue. He'll have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery. Connor Norby will shift to the hot corner while TJ Rumfield enters the lineup at first base.

Gorman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

It's the fourth time Gorman has been absent from St. Louis' lineup in the past five games, with only one of those absences coming against a left-handed starting pitcher. The recent returns of JJ Wetherholt and Masyn Winn from injuries have resulted in Thomas Saggese pushing into the third-base mix alongside Jose Fermin, leaving little playing time for Gorman.

Riley is out of the lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Astros.

Riley will ride the pine after striking out eight times over his last four games. Mauricio Dubon will man the hot corner and bat fifth for Atlanta during Sunday's series finale against Houston.

The Rockies designated Machin for assignment Saturday.

With Jose Quintana (elbow) returning from the 60-day IL, a 40-man spot was needed, and Machin ends up as the roster casualty. Machin provides defensive versatility around the infield but little with the bat, as evidenced by his .209/.289/.269 career slash line over parts of five big-league seasons.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Saturday that Jordan (ankle) will not play again this season, John Denton of Roundtable.io reports.

Jordan was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain in late August. While he recently shed his walking boot and began incorporating some baseball activities, the Cardinals ultimately decided to shut him down early because of the severity of the injury he suffered, according to Denton. The 23-year-old Jordan ends his rookie season with a .247/.276/.382 slash line and three homers over 199 plate appearances.

House is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Jorbit Vivas will start at third base against right-hander Michael McGreevy as House sits for the second time in three games. House, a right-handed hitter, has a .333/.404/.538 slash line with the platoon edge this season but just a .197/.254/.332 line against same-side pitching.

Cabrera joined the Reds' active roster Saturday.

Cabrera seemed destined to join the Reds' Triple-A affiliate when he was claimed off waivers from the Yankees on Friday, but Cincinnati will instead add him to its active roster to provide depth in both the infield and outfield. TJ Friedl was sent down to Louisville in a corresponding move.

Muncy went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-2 win over the Giants.

The veteran slugger grounded out as a pinch hitter for Miguel Rojas in the fifth inning, but he remained in the game at third base. Muncy then sparked the Dodgers' four-homer barrage in the eighth with a solo shot, his 29th long ball of the year. He's batting .253 with an .847 OPS, 74 RBI, 78 runs scored, 24 doubles, one triple and two stolen bases over 142 contests. While Muncy continues to see time as a strong-side platoon option, he's put together one of the better seasons of his career in that role.

Gorman is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Nationals.

Gorman has received the lion's share of playing time at third base since being recalled from Triple-A Memphis in late August, but he's gone just 9-for-57 (.157) with a 30.6 percent strikeout rate during that stretch. With JJ Wetherholt and Masyn Winn both now healthy, there will be fewer at-bats to be had in the St. Louis infield for players like Gorman. Thomas Saggese is handling third base for the Cardinals on Friday.
