Giants' J.D. Davis: Clubs sixth homer

Davis went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Padres.

Davis took advantage of the increased elevation in Mexico City, taking Yu Darvish yard for a solo homer in the second inning. He followed up the long ball with a single off Darvish in the fourth that advanced Michael Conforto to third, who would eventually come around to score. Davis now has six homers on the season, a threshold he has surpassed just twice in six years in the bigs.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Gets Sunday off

Castro is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's battle against the Nationals.

Castro continues to hit well as the everyday shortstop for the Pirates, but he'll get a day of rest in the series finale against the Nationals. Tucupita Marcano will handle shortstop duties and hit seventh.

  • Drew Maggi 3B | PIT

Pirates' Drew Maggi: Sent down after twin bill

The Pirates returned Maggi to Double-A Altoona following Saturday's doubleheader against the Nationals.

Maggi remained with the club for Saturday's twin bill and picked up his first big-league hit in the nightcap, going 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run. The minor-league journeyman finally received a taste of the big leagues but is now headed back to Altoona, where he has a .468 OPS in eight games to open the season.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Evan Longoria: Going through rough patch

Longoria started at designated hitter and went 0-for-5 in Saturday's 11-4 win over the Rockies.

Longoria has just one hit over the late 21 at-bats, lowering his season average to .208. He could be in danger of losing plate appearances to Emmanuel Rivera, who started at third base and had three hits Saturday.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Adds three more hits

Rivera started at third base and went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Saturday's 11-4 win over Colorado.

Rivera got the start at third against a righty instead of Josh Rojas, who gave Ketel Marte a rest at second base. Rivera has hit in all four games since being called up as a replacement for Jake McCarthy, going 7-for-12 with two RBI. He's currently third on the depth chart at the hot corner behind Rojas and Evan Longoria, who has one hit in last 21 at-bats and is batting .208.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Crushes two homers

Machado went 3-for-4 with a double, two homers, three RBI, four runs scored and one steal in Saturday's win over San Francisco.

Machado delivered a two-run home run in the seventh inning that gave the Padres the lead for good. The third baseman has three homers in the last two games after swatting just one long ball in his first 25 games of the season. The recent outburst has pumped up his numbers, but he is still slashing a disappointing .245/.289/.406 in 2023.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Clubs 10th homer

Wisdom went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Marlins.

Wisdom broke out of a slump Saturday, driving Trey Mancini in on a 418-foot, two-run homer in the second inning and reaching base safely three times after going 1-for-15 (.067) in his last five appearances. After hitting his 10th long ball, Wisdom trails only Max Muncy (11) for the league lead in home runs while slashing .250/.327/.659 through 24 games.

  • Edmundo Sosa 3B | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Not in lineup Saturday

Sosa is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Astros.

Sosa tallied two doubles and two runs scored in the Phillies' defeat of the Astros on Friday, but he'll grab some rest Saturday in the second game of the three-game set at Minute Maid Park. Alec Bohm is at third base and Kody Clemens will play first.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Reaches three times in return

Muncy went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, a run and an RBI in Friday's 7-3 win over St. Louis.

Muncy spent time on the paternity list this week before being activated ahead of Friday's contest. The third baseman picked up where he left off prior to his brief absence, drawing multiple walks for the fourth time in his past seven games. Over that stretch, Muncy is slashing .375/.630/1.188 with four homers, five runs and seven RBI.

  • Drew Maggi 3B | PIT

Pirates' Drew Maggi: Staying on as 27th man

Maggi was optioned Saturday to Triple-A Indianapolis but will remain with the Pirates as the 27th man for their doubleheader against the Nationals.
