  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Lands on injured list

Moustakas was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain Saturday, retroactive to Aug. 24.

Moustakas missed the last three games due to his calf injury and will ultimately require a trip to the injured list. However, he'll be eligible to return in early September since the move was backdated to Wednesday. Colin Moran's contract was selected Saturday, and he should have a chance to carve out playing time while Moustakas and Matt Reynolds (hip) are sidelined.

  • Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Hits two-run homer

Rivera went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 7-2 win over the White Sox.

Rivera knocked in Josh Rojas on a second-inning shot to put the Diamondbacks up 6-0. In 17 games since being acquired from the Royals, Rivera has gone 17-for-61, taking his batting average from .237 to .247 in the process. During that span, he also has five homers, including his two-run blast Friday. With second baseman Ketel Marte being used as a DH only after aggravating a balky hamstring, Rivera is filling in at third base while Josh Rojas handles second.

  • Eguy Rosario 3B | SD

Padres' Eguy Rosario: Called up by Padres

Rosario was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Rosario hasn't yet made his major-league debut, but he's one of the Padres' top prospects and has performed well at El Paso to begin the season. He slashed .291/.372/.518 with 21 homers, 92 runs, 76 RBI and 20 stolen bases in the minors this year and will attempt to carve out playing time at the big-league level after Matt Batten was sent down Friday.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: Returns to active roster

Peterson (elbow) was activated off the 10-day injured list Friday.

Peterson had been on the shelf for over a month with a sprained left elbow, but he's ready to return after going 2-for-9 in a trio of rehab games. He'll fill a utility role down the stretch for the Brewers.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Not in Friday's lineup

Wisdom will sit Friday against the Brewers.

Wisdom recently missed three straight games with a finger strain, and while he returned for the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, he's gone just 1-for-10 at the plate in his last three games. P.J. Higgins will get the start at first base.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Placed on paternity list

Arenado was placed on the paternity list Friday.

This seemed imminent when Arenado returned home Thursday, missing the series finale against the Cubs. The roster move didn't become official at the time, so it's now possible he misses the entirety of this weekend's series against Atlanta. Brendan Donovan starts at third base Friday.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

    Reds' Nick Senzel: Sitting Friday

Senzel will sit Friday against the Nationals.

Senzel sits after starting seven straight games. He hit .269/.345/.385 over that stretch but still owns a poor .626 OPS on the season. TJ Friedl will be the center fielder Friday.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

    Reds' Mike Moustakas: Remains out

Moustakas (calf) remains on the bench for Friday's game against the Nationals.

Moustakas will sit for the third straight game, with the Reds having little incentive to rush the oft-injured veteran at the tail end of a lost season. Donovan Solano will make another start at first base in his absence.

  • Mets' Eduardo Escobar: Preparing for possible utility role

Mets manager Buck Showalter said Escobar (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday for High-A Brooklyn, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

According to Showalter, Escobar is scheduled to log seven innings at shortstop, a position he's played for only two innings in the majors since the start of the 2019 season. Because Escobar had fallen into a short-side platoon role at third base prior to landing on the injured list Aug. 17 with a strained oblique, the Mets are eager to give him more exposure to other infield positions so he can serve as more of a utility player off the bench once he's activated. The Mets appear content to stick with rookie Brett Baty as their everyday third baseman, even though the youngster has produced a measly .492 OPS in his first eight big-league games.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Still not starting

Moustakas (calf) isn't starting Thursday against the Phillies.

Moustakas continues to deal with a left calf injury and will be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game. Donovan Solano will shift to first base while Kyle Farmer serves as the designated hitter Thursday.
