Phillies' Jean Segura: Day off Tuesday

Segura is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Astros, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Many of the Phillies' regulars are getting the day off after celebrating a postseason berth Monday night. Phil Maton is starting at the keystone and hitting sixth.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Done for season

Longoria was placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured right thumb Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Longoria was struck on the hand by a ball Sunday against the Diamondbacks and underwent an X-ray that revealed a fractured thumb. He'll be unavailable for the Giants' final three regular-season games, and it seems likely that he'll require several weeks of rest during the offseason. The 36-year-old slashed .244/.315/.451 with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and 31 runs over 89 games in 2022.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Late scratch Monday

Arenado was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Pirates for an undisclosed reason, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Arenado was scratched from the lineup with approximately 15 minutes remaining until first pitch, but a reason for his removal isn't yet clear. Juan Yepez will enter the lineup at third base and bat sixth.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Riding pine Monday

Machado isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against San Francisco.

The 30-year-old slugger will get a day off after the Padres officially clinched a playoff spot Sunday. Brandon Drury will move to third base in his absence, moving Josh Bell into first base and opening up a chance for Brandon Dixon to start as San Diego's designated hitter, batting ninth.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Racking up runs

Segura went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs in Sunday's 8-1 win over the Nationals.

He's now crossed home four times in the last two days alone after scoring just twice over the Phillies' final 11 contests of September. Segura will be taking a five-game hitting streak into Monday's game against the Astros. He's starting at second base and batting eighth in the series opener.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: Sitting versus lefty

Peterson isn't in the starting lineup Monday against Arizona.

The lefty-hitting Peterson will take a seat Monday, as the lefty-throwing Tommy Henry will begin the game on the mound for the Diamondbacks. Mike Brosseau will start at the hot corner instead and bat leadoff for Milwaukee.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Sitting again Monday

Wisdom is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Cincinnati.

Wisdom is riding pine for the second game in a row after he recently wrapped up a stretch of eight consecutive starts in which he hit .179 with a 45.2 percent strikeout rate. After a breakthrough 2021 campaign, Wisdom has seen his OPS plummet nearly 100 points in 2022, all the way down to .730. He's not a lock to open the 2023 season in an everyday role.

  • Marlins' Jordan Groshans: Moves into utility role

Groshans is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Groshans started in six of the Marlins' past seven games at third base and went 6-for-23 with no extra-base hits, one walk and three runs. Now that Joey Wendle is healthy again to close out the season, Groshans may handle more of a utility role during the Marlins' three-game series with Atlanta.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Takes seat Monday

Anderson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

While moving between right field and designated hitter, Anderson picked up starts in eight of Miami's last nine games while posting a .598 OPS. He'll get a breather for Monday's series opener after an 0-for-5, three-strikeout showing in Sunday's 4-3 win over Milwaukee in 12 innings.

  • Matt Reynolds 3B | CIN

Reds' Matt Reynolds: Shifts into utility role

Reynolds is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

With Donovan Solano recently overcoming an eye infection, Reynolds appears to have moved into a utility role for Cincinnati. Reynolds is on the bench for the third time in four games.
