  • Edmundo Sosa LF | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Season in jeopardy

Sosa is dealing with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, which could end his season, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

The Phillies acquired Sosa as a defense-first utility man at the deadline, but he's been better than advertised at the plate in limited action, slashing .315/.345/.593 across 59 plate appearances. Yairo Munoz was recalled Friday to fill his utility role and now seemingly has a path to remain on the roster the rest of the way.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Still not starting

Newman (undisclosed) isn't starting Saturday against the Mets.

Newman exited Wednesday's game against the Reds with an apparent injury and will remain out of the lineup for a third consecutive game. Whether he's available off the bench Saturday remains to be seen.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Smacks 17th homer

McMahon went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Friday against the Cubs.

McMahon took Marcus Stroman deep in the sixth inning to tally his 17th homer of the season. He's gone yard four times in his last six games, three of which came at Coors Field. However, McMahon has still had a disappointing season by maintaining only a 96 wRC+ and .328 wOBA across 530 plate appearances.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Hits solo home run

Segura went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's loss against Atlanta.

Segura hit a solo shot in the fifth inning to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead before Atlanta would come back to win in the eighth inning. It was Segura's 10th homer of the season and his second this month. The second baseman has been on fire this month, going 13-for-43 (.302), including two multi-hit games. He has gone hitless in just three of 12 games this month. On the season, Segura is slashing .286/.343/.418.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Sitting again Friday

Longoria is out of the lineup for Friday's game versus the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Longoria has a .445 OPS and 35.1 percent strikeout rate through 11 games in September and will take a seat Friday for the second consecutive contest. David Villar will shift to the hot corner while Wilmer Flores starts at first base.

  • Edmundo Sosa LF | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Likely to miss more than minimum

Sosa (hamstring) is expected to spend more than the minimum 10 days on the injured list, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Sosa left Thursday's game against the Marlins with a right hamstring strain and was placed on the injured list the next day. There are only 20 days left in the regular season, so Sosa will miss at least half the remainder of the campaign, and potentially the entire rest of the year. Yairo Munoz was called up to fill his utility role.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

    Pirates' Kevin Newman: Remains sidelined

Newman (undisclosed) remains on the bench Friday against the Mets.

Newman left Wednesday's game against the Reds with an apparent injury after crashing into the wall while chasing a foul ball. He didn't take part in Thursday's contest and won't be involved from the start Friday, either. He hasn't been an everyday player, so there's no guarantee he's nursing an injury, but his consecutive absences make that likely.

  • Nick Maton DH | CHW

Phillies' Nick Maton: Gets day off Friday

Maton isn't starting Friday against Atlanta.

Maton will get a day off Friday after going 3-for-11 with two homers over his last five games. Matt Vierling will take over in right field and bat seventh.

  • Edmundo Sosa LF | PHI

Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Lands on injured list

Sosa (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a strained right hamstring, Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

After being removed from Thursday's loss to Miami while walking with a noticeable limp, Sosa was officially diagnosed with a strained hamstring Friday. No timetable has been put in place for his recovery, but a return in the minimum 10 days would allow him to see action again before the end of the season.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Records fifth steal

Arenado went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Reds.

Arenado has exactly one hit in each of his last five games, and he's added six RBI, a steal and two runs scored in that span. The third baseman is hitting a light .200 through 12 games in September, but that's done little damage to his season slash line of .298/.359/.550 through 133 contests. He's added 29 home runs, five steals, 96 RBI and 69 runs scored.
