  • Joseph Ortiz 3B | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Beginning assignment Thursday

Ortiz (neck) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Thursday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Neck inflammation has kept Ortiz on the injured list since July 3, though his neck issues can be traced back to late June. The Brewers haven't officially stated how many games they plan on having the third baseman play in the minors, though the fact he's headed to High-A Wisconsin may indicate the team wants to keep him nearby for activation once he's eligible to return from the IL on Friday.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Goes deep in win

Morel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Orioles.

Morel launched his 16th home run of the season in the second inning against All-Star Corbin Burnes. While the 25-year-old continues to hit for power, he's not doing much else at the plate, as he's batting just .200 on the season. Morel has fantasy upside due to his pop, though fantasy managers will have to endure the low batting average.

  • Trey Lipscomb 3B | WAS

Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Exiting starting nine Wednesday

Lipscomb is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Following his promotion from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Lipscomb started at third base in each of the Nationals' ensuing four games, going 2-for-14 with a run scored. Ildemaro Vargas will fill in for him Wednesday, but Lipscomb should see the bulk of the starts at the hot corner moving forward after the Nationals recently designated Nick Senzel for assignment.

  • Cavan Biggio 2B | ATL

    Dodgers' Cavan Biggio: Homers Tuesday

Biggio went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 10-1 loss to the Phillies.

Biggio provided the Dodgers' lone run in the lopsided defeat with a solo shot off Zack Wheeler in the fifth inning. It's Biggio's first homer since joining Los Angeles on June 12. He had gone just 1-for-13 in his previous seven contests. Overall, Biggio's slashing an uninspiring .197/.314/.286 with three homers, 11 RBI, 20 runs scored and two steals across 172 plate appearances between the Dodgers and Blue Jays this year.

  • Nationals' Ildemaro Vargas: Swats first homer of year

Vargas went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Mets.

The veteran utility player began the game on the bench, but he pinch hit for Trey Lipscomb in the eighth inning and took Adam Ottavino deep -- Vargas' first long ball of the season. After a hot start to the season, Vargas is batting just .135 (5-for-37) over his last 15 appearances, and his playing time has dwindled.

  • Brewers' Andruw Monasterio: Sitting Tuesday

Monasterio isn't in the Brewers' lineup Tuesday versus Pittsburgh.

Monasterio has struggled since taking over for Joey Ortiz (neck) as Milwaukee's primary third baseman, going just 2-for-15 at the plate in his last four games. He'll give way to Vinny Capra on Tuesday, who will bat ninth while manning the hot corner.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Logs multi-hit game

Candelario went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 6-0 win over the Rockies.

Candelario, who has a modest five-game hit streak (6-for-21), logged his first multi-hit effort in 12 games. He entered Monday batting .156 (7-for-45) over the previous 11 contests.

  • Edwin Rios 3B | CIN

Reds' Edwin Rios: Makes first start

Rios started at first base and went 0-for-3 in Monday's 6-0 win over Colorado.

Rios made his first start for the Reds since his contract was selected from Triple-A Louisville. The team is dealing with several absences that have cropped up recently, which required a dip into the minors. Rios was initially brought up when the Reds added Jake Fraley to the family medical emergency list, and the team subsequently placed Nick Martini (thumb) and Stuart Fairchild (back) on the 10-day injured list over the weekend. Once Austin Slater, who was recently acquired from the Giants, joins the team Tuesday, Rios could return to Louisville.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | PIT

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Sitting out Monday

Hayes is out of the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Mets.

Hayes appears to be getting a routine maintenance day after he started in each of the previous six games. Jared Triolo will fill in for Hayes at third base.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Paces offense with five RBI

Suarez went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double, five RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-1 win over the Padres.

Suarez had his most productive day at the plate this season. He broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh with a two-run blast off Dylan Cease and then later tallied a bases-clearing double in the ninth. He had one more RBI on Sunday than his previous 20 starts combined. It was just his second game of the year with three hits and also his second with at least three runs driven in. Suarez is now slashing just .210/.298/.339 with seven homers, 39 RBI, 32 runs and a 32:99 BB:K in 339 plate appearances.
