Dodgers' Max Muncy: Homers in return

Muncy went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, five RBI and two runs scored Thursday against the White Sox.

Muncy was activated from the injured list Thursday, and he began his productive day with a two-RBI double in the fifth inning. He added a three-run home run in the following frame, tallying his fourth long ball of the campaign. Muncy is hitting just .159/.329/.297 across 173 plate appearances on the season, though it's possible he finds his stride at the dish after having some additional time to get healthy.

  • Matt Reynolds 3B | CIN

Reds' Matt Reynolds: Knocks another homer

Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Reynolds took Ian Kennedy yard in the ninth inning to record his third home run of the season. All three of those homers have come in his last seven games, and he also has six RBI in that span. So long as Mike Moustakas (illness) and Jonathan India (hamstring) remain sidelined, Reynolds should have a clear path to playing time.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Activated by Dodgers

Muncy (elbow) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Muncy missed two weeks due to left elbow inflammation but recently completed a four-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City and went 2-for-14 with a homer, two RBI, three runs and six strikeouts. The 31-year-old hit just .150 through 41 games prior to his absence, but he should see regular playing time in the heart of the Dodgers' order now that he's back in action.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Remains out of lineup

Senzel (back) is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Senzel will miss a second consecutive game while dealing with a back injury as Albert Almora draws the start in center field and will bat eighth Thursday. Manager David Bell told Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer that Senzel had his back examined Thursday and he could miss a day or a few.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Back in lineup Thursday

Arenado is starting at third base and batting third in Thursday's matchup with the Rays, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

After missing Wednesday's loss with knee soreness after he was hit by a pitch Tuesday, Arenado is ready to go for Thursday's contest. The third baseman has been hitting better recently after a 0-for-17 stretch in late May, notching 10 hits, including a homer, with seven RBI and five runs over his last eight games.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Smacks 15th homer

Riley went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored Wednesday against the Athletics.

Riley delivered a two-run home run in the fifth inning to record his 15th homer of the campaign. He added an RBI single two frames later and now has five home runs with 13 RBI and 12 runs scored across his last 10 starts. Riley has proven his 2021 breakout to be legitimate to this point by maintaining a .375 wOBA and 138 wRC+ across 247 plate appearances.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Late scratch with back injury

Senzel was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks due to a lower-back strain, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Senzel was penciled in to bat leadoff Wednesday but was scratched while the start of the contest delayed due to rain. The severity of the injury remains unclear, but it's a troublesome development given the 26-year-old's extensive injury history.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Takes seat Wednesday

Longoria is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Longoria will head to the bench Wednesday for the second time in the past three games. Thairo Estrada will start at the hot corner and bat sixth in Longoria's absence.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Finishing up rehab stint

Manager Dave Roberts said there's a "good possibility" Wednesday is the last day of Muncy's (elbow) rehab assignment, and the infielder could be activated from the 10-day injured list as early as Thursday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The 31-year-old has gone 2-for-10 with a home run, two RBI and three walks over three rehab appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City, and his fourth game Wednesday is set to be his last. Muncy has been sidelined by left elbow inflammation the past two weeks but may be back in the lineup for Thursday's series finale versus the White Sox. He's struggled so far in 2022 with a .150/.327/.263 slash line, three home runs and 14 RBI in 41 games.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: May have hurt kneecap Tuesday

Arenado, who is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays, could be dealing with some residual soreness after he was hit in the kneecap by a pitch in Tuesday's 4-2 loss, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Arenado looked to be in pain after he was hit by a pitch in the top of the 10th, but he took his base and was in the field in the bottom of the inning in the Rays' walkoff win. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol hasn't explicitly said that Arenado's absence from the lineup a day later is a result of the knee issue, but the 31-year-old's availability will bear watching nonetheless heading into Thursday's series finale. For his part, Arenado told Denton that he expects to be ready to pinch hit Wednesday if needed and plans to rejoin the lineup Thursday.
