Kevin Newman 3B | LAA
Pirates' Kevin Newman: Officially placed on 10-day IL
Newman (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Newman's placement on the injured list was expected since the shortstop is slated to miss 3-to-5 weeks after sustaining a left groin strain in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. Diego Castillo will start at shortstop Wednesday against Milwaukee, while Tucupita Marcano should also see increased playing time with Newman unavailable.

Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA
Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Recaptures everyday role
Wisdom will start at third base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
After sitting against Atlanta lefty Max Fried in Tuesday's series opener, Jonathan Villar is on the bench again Wednesday with the opposition bringing a right-hander (Charlie Morton) to the hill. Meanwhile, Wisdom has picked up starts at third base in both of those contests, and he's now been included in the lineup six straight games overall. After appearing to lose hold of an everyday role last week, Wisdom has seemingly leapfrogged Villar on the depth chart now that his bat is beginning to warm up. Over his last 10 games, Wisdom is slashing .367/.457/.733 with seven extra-base knocks.

Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY
Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Resting versus lefty
McMahon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
The lefty-hitting McMahon had started in each of the last 12 games, so manager Bud Black likely viewed Wednesday as an opportune time to give him a breather with southpaw Ranger Suarez on the hill for Philadelphia. Alan Trejo will check in at third base as a replacement for McMahon.

Jace Peterson SS | ARI
Brewers' Jace Peterson: On bench against left-hander
Peterson isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Peterson will get a breather with left-hander Dillon Peters on the mound for the Pirates. Mike Brosseau will take over at the hot corner and bat eighth.

Jean Segura 3B | CLE
Phillies' Jean Segura: Takes seat Wednesday
Segura is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
After a string of nine consecutive starts, Segura will get a breather for the penultimate game of the series with Colorado. He hit out of the leadoff spot in the last seven of those contests, turning in a .233/.303/.267 slash line while stealing a base, scoring four runs and driving in two more. Segura may continue to hold down the table-setting gig despite his underwhelming production atop the lineup, but manager Joe Girardi will turn the leadoff role over to Odubel Herrera for at least Wednesday's contest.

Kevin Newman 3B | LAA
Pirates' Kevin Newman: Expected to land on injured list
Newman (groin) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that the shortstop suffered a left groin strain in Tuesday's loss to Milwaukee. The 28-year-old is expected to require a 3-to-5 week recovery timetable, so he'll be placed on the injured list. Diego Castillo and Tucupita Marcano should see more reps at shortstop while Newman is sidelined.

Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI
Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Gets aboard three times
Arenado went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks in Tuesday's 3-0 loss to the Mets.
Arenado was a bright spot in a game that saw the Cardinals get just three baserunners to second base, and none to third. The third baseman had gone 0-for-8 in his last two games, so it's encouraging to see him snap out of the skid before it turned into an extended slump. Arenado is slashing .344/.420/.672 with five home runs, 14 RBI, 10 runs scored and five doubles through 16 games.

Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY
Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Reaches base multiple times
McMahon went 0-for-1 with three walks and a run scored Tuesday against the Phillies.
McMahon was one of the few bright spots offensively for the Rockies besides Charlie Blackmon. McMahon has now reached base multiple times in three of his last six starts, and he's also posted four RBI and one run scored in that span. He has only seven extra-base hits across 65 plate appearances for the season -- good for a .164 ISO -- but he has also posted an impressive .345 wOBA.
-
Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN
Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Hot start continues
Hayes went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and an RBI on Tuesday against the Brewers.
Hayes extended his hitting streak to five games, though this was his first multi-hit game in the span. However, he's been excellent throughout the early portion of the season, as he's failed to reach base in only one start in which he did not leave the contest early. The primary downside to Hayes' performance is his lack of power -- he has no home runs across 64 pate appearances -- though he's offset that a bit with a pair of stolen bases and eight runs scored.

Nick Senzel 3B | LAD
Reds' Nick Senzel: Hits first homer of 2022
Senzel went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Padres.
Cincinnati fell to 3-14 with the loss, but Senzel provided a bright spot with his solo shot off Robert Suarez in the ninth inning. It was Senzel's first homer since April 30, 2021 -- almost a full calendar year. He still has a lot to prove both in terms of health and performance, but at least for now Senzel appears to be feeling well after he recently missed some time due to illness.
