Giants' Jason Vosler: Gets call from Triple-A

The Giants recalled Vosler from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Vosler missed out on an Opening Day roster spot but will join the team less than two weeks later. He struggled to a .178/.256/.356 line in 82 plate appearances as a 27-year-old rookie last season, so he doesn't seem likely to carve out a major role. Luke Williams was optioned to clear a roster spot.

  • Carter Kieboom 3B | CLE

Nationals' Carter Kieboom: Slow progress from elbow strain

Kieboom (elbow) was expected to resume playing light catch last week, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez hasn't confirmed that Kieboom was cleared to begin a throwing program, but even if that's the case, the 24-year-old still isn't expected to make his 2022 debut for the big club until at least early June after landing on the 60-day injured list March 21. Kieboom's injury to begin the season paved the way for Maikel Franco to break camp as the Nationals' everyday third baseman. Franco has produced a modest .727 OPS through his first 43 plate appearances, but that's probably enough to keep him secure atop the depth chart for now.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Should play Tuesday

Manager David Bell said after Monday's 4-1 loss to the Padres that Moustakas was scratched from the lineup ahead of the game due to a right arm injury, but the third baseman is expected to start Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Colin Moran picked up the start at the hot corner in the series opener in San Diego, but Moustakas looks as though he was only removed from the lineup for precautionary reasons. Assuming his arm doesn't present any issues during batting practice or defensive drills when he works out early Tuesday, he looks like he'll be ready to take back his normal role in the Cincinnati infield.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Falls triple short of cycle

Machado went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double and an additional run in Monday's 4-1 win over Cincinnati.

Machado gave San Diego an early lead with his first-inning two-run shot to left field, and he didn't slow down from there. The veteran third baseman collected two more knocks to finish with his fourth multi-hit performance of the season. Machado is slashing .354/.404/.583 through 12 games, and he has recorded two homers, five doubles, eight RBI, 10 runs and three stolen bases.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Goes yard Monday

Wisdom went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Monday's 4-2 win over the Rays.

Wisdom took Shane McClanahan deep in the second inning for his first long ball of the 2022 campaign. Unfortunately, the 30-year-old struck out in his other two at-bats, giving him 14 punchouts through 33 at-bats to begin the season. He's batting .242 with six extra-base hits and eight RBI.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Gets night off

Moustakas isn't starting Monday's game against San Diego, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Moustakas was initially listed in the starting lineup, but after the Reds moved Tyler Naquin (undisclosed) to the injured list, the new lineup did not include the veteran third baseman. It's unclear at this time why Moustakas was scratched from the starting nine, per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Back from IL

Senzel (illness) has been activated from the injured list ahead of Monday's game against San Diego, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

As anticipated, Senzel has been officially activated after returning to health. He could start in center field Monday night in the series opener, especially now that Tyler Naquin (undisclosed) has been moved to the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

    Reds' Nick Senzel: Activated Monday

Senzel (illness) was activated from the injured list Monday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old has been unavailable for the past week while battling a stomach bug, but he'll rejoin the the active roster ahead of Monday's matchup with the Dodgers. Senzel wasn't included in the initial lineup but could take the starting spot of Tyler Naquin, who was placed on the injured list without a designation in a corresponding move.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

    Reds' Nick Senzel: Activation looming

Senzel (illness) is back with the team and is expected to be activated from the injured list Tuesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

According to Nightengale, Senzel has been unable to take the field while dealing with a stomach bug, but he's expected to be available Tuesday if all goes according to plan. He's appeared in five games so far this season, going 2-for-17 with a double, an RBI and three strikeouts. Assuming Senzel is back in time for Tuesday's contest, Jake Fraley would likely shift back to right field, resulting in Tyler Naquin returning to a bench role.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Returns to lineup

Newman (groin) is starting Monday's game against the Brewers.

Newman missed three consecutive games due to a groin issue, but he'll be back in the lineup for Monday's series opener in Milwaukee. He hit .217 with a triple, three doubles, five RBI and a run in his first six appearances of the year.
