  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Cubs' Matt Duffy: Losing work to Bote

Duffy will start at third base and bat leadoff Wednesday against the Phillies.

Though he'll crack the lineup Wednesday, Duffy's time as an everyday player looks to have ended after David Bote was activated from the injured list Sept. 6. With Bote stepping in as the Cubs' primary second baseman and Sergio Alcantara and Patrick Wisdom typically holding down the fort at shortstop and third base, respectively, Duffy was on the bench for three of the team's last five games.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Gets breather Wednesday

McMahon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

After four consecutive starts, McMahon will take a seat for the middle game of the series at Truist Park, opening up third base for rookie Colton Welker. Through 13 games in September, McMahon has gone 10-for-39 (.256 average) with two home runs, four doubles, 10 RBI, seven runs and a stolen base.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Draws two walks Tuesday

McMahon went 0-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-4 win over Atlanta.

McMahon didn't get a hit but was still active on the basepaths after drawing a pair of walks. He scored his first time on base and then stole second his next time reaching but was left stranded on third. The stolen base was just his fifth of the year and his first since June 26. Overall, the 26-year-old is slashing .256/.330/.457 with 22 homers, 72 RBI, 75 runs scored, and a 51:133 BB:K over 533 plate appearances.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Scores three runs

Muncy went 2-for-3 with a double, two-run home run, two additional runs and a walk in Tuesday's 8-4 win over Arizona.

Muncy doubled and scored in the first inning, blasted a two-run homer off Arizona starter Luke Weaver in the third and walked and scored in the seventh to reach base three times for the first time since Aug. 28. Known for his on-base abilities, Muncy's walk was his first in 10 games while the long ball was his 33rd on the season. Muncy has a real shot at surpassing his career high of 35 homers set in 2018 and matched in 2019.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Ties team rookie homer record

Wisdom went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Phillies.

Wisdom hadn't gone deep yet this month but snapped that streak Tuesday with his 26th home run of the season. In doing so, the 30-year-old tied Kris Bryant's team rookie record set in 2015. Wisdom isn't your typical rookie after mostly toiling in the minors the past nine years, but he's made the most of his opportunity with the Cubs. He should continue to see regular playing time and has a shot to reach the 30-homer plateau, which seemed unthinkable before the season.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Undergoes shoulder surgery

Anderson underwent surgery to repair his left shoulder capsule Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Anderson will now officially miss the rest of the season after undergoing the procedure, though he's expected to be healthy in time for spring training in February. The 28-year-old had a down season while dealing with multiple injuries and finished with a .249/.337/.378 slash line in 67 games.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

    Giants' Evan Longoria: Sitting Tuesday

Longoria is not the lineup Tuesday against the Padres.

The 35-year-old will get a day off after starting four consecutive games and collecting five hits and two homers. Kris Bryant takes over at third base while Steven Duggar starts in center field against Jake Arrieta.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Hits bench against lefty

Moustakas will sit Tuesday against the Pirates.

Moustakas hasn't started against a lefty since his return from the injured list in early August. That trend continues here against Dillon Peters, with Eugenio Suarez starting at third base.

  • Edmundo Sosa 3B | PHI

Cardinals' Edmundo Sosa: Drives in run in return

Sosa (wrist) went 1-for-5 with an RBI single in a win over the Mets on Monday.

The infielder made his return to the starting nine after a four-game absence due to wrist soreness, with his two-at-bat cameo as a defensive replacement in Sunday's contest versus the Reds teeing up Monday's start. Sosa's ninth-inning RBI knock extended the Cardinals' lead to 6-0 at the time and pushed his average over eight September games to an impressive .308 (8-for-26).

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Brings home four runs

Longoria went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Monday's 9-1 win over the Padres.

Longoria launched a three-run blast off Yu Darvish as part of San Francisco's five-run first inning. He later added an RBI single in the eighth. It was his 12th home run of the year and second over his last three appearances. Longoria has gone 6-for-17 (.353) with 13 RBI over the last six games, improving his season OPS to .931.
