  • Padres' Donovan Solano: Draws sixth straight start

Solano will start at third base and bat cleanup in Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Though Manny Machado returned to the lineup Monday after missing four straight games with a hip flexor strain, Solano has been able to maintain a spot in the lineup while Machado remains limited to designated hitter duties. Solano will get his sixth consecutive start Wednesday, but once Machado is cleared to resume playing third base, Solano will likely move into the short side of a platoon at designated hitter with David Peralta.

    Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Call-up official

The Nationals recalled Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

As expected, Washington placed Joey Gallo (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Lipscomb. Though he stole 10 bases over 121 plate appearances with the Nationals earlier this season, the 23-year-old slashed just .252/.331/.290 and has been even more unproductive at the Triple-A level (.576 OPS in 98 plate appearances). He could have to settle for a short-side platoon role while he's up with the Nationals, as manager Dave Martinez could first turn to Joey Meneses to replace Gallo as a regular in the lineup.

  • Joseph Ortiz 3B | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Remains out Wednesday

Ortiz (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Blue Jays.

Ortiz will miss a second straight start with a right hamstring issue. He still needs to undergo testing but is optimistic he won't require an extended absence, per Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Oliver Dunn will fill in for Ortiz at third base Wednesday.

Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Bound for big leagues

The Nationals plan to call up Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester ahead of Wednesday's game in Detroit, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

He'll likely join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for first baseman/outfielder Joey Gallo, who is expected to go on the 10-day injured list after straining his hamstring in Tuesday's 5-4 win. Between his previous two stints in the majors this season, Lipscomb slashed an underwhelming .252/.331/.290 over 121 plate appearances, though he contributed 10 stolen bases on 11 attempts. Lipscomb had served mostly as an everyday player at third base when he was up with the Nationals earlier this season, but he could be relegated to a short-side platoon role if Washington elects to have Joey Meneses replace Gallo as a regular in the lineup.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | COL

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Notches pair of hits

McMahon went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo homer and an additional run during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Twins.

McMahon generated his first multi-hit game since May 22, scoring in the sixth inning after reaching on a double and then swatting a solo homer off Cole Sands in the eighth inning. The third baseman had been in a rut prior to Tuesday's game, going 2-for-29 with two runs and no RBI in the past seven games. Still, McMahon owns a .788 OPS with 11 home runs across 66 games this year.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Pops 13th home run

Morel went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Rays.

Morel connected for this third home run of the month and 13th of the season in the fourth inning. The 24-year-old is now halfway to his long ball total from last year through 66 games. Morel only needed 107 contests to record those 26 homers in 2023, but he seems primed to play more games this season if he stays healthy, and that could result in a new career best in the power department.

  • Joseph Ortiz 3B | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Scratched with sore hamstring

Ortiz was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays due to right hamstring soreness, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The third baseman was penciled in atop the order with lefty Yusei Kikuchi pitching for Toronto but will instead be held out due to the hamstring issue. Andruw Monasterio replaced him at third base and the leadoff spot. Ortiz should be considered day-to-day heading into Wednesday's series finale versus the Blue Jays.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Giants' Matt Chapman: Returns to lineup

Chapman (hamstring) is back in the Giants' lineup versus the Astros on Tuesday.

Chapman suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday's game versus the Rangers and missed the two following games because of it. With the third baseman no longer sidelined, Casey Schmitt will head back to the bench.

  • Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: On bench Tuesday

Hernandez isn't in the Dodgers' lineup Tuesday versus the Rangers.

Hernandez has been the primary third baseman for the Dodgers while Max Muncy nurses an oblique injury. In the three-game series versus the Yankees that ended Sunday, Hernandez went 3-for-10 with a home run and a double. With the 32-year-old on the bench Tuesday, Miguel Rojas is starting at third base and will bat ninth.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Slow recovery progress

Muncy (oblique) said Tuesday on Foul Territory that he's "not progressing as fast" as he would like from his strained right oblique.

Muncy's comments mesh with what manager Dave Roberts said over the weekend, which was that the third baseman is working on a "slow program." The 33-year-old recently progressed to taking dry swings and doing plyo-ball workouts, and he doesn't appear to be close to rejoining the Dodgers. Enrique Hernandez has been operating as Los Angeles' primary third baseman in the meantime and will likely continue to fill that role.
