  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Breaks homer drought

Arenado went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBI and an additional run Tuesday in the Rockies' 14-6 loss to the Padres.

Arenado's first-inning blast off Mike Clevinger ended a 15-game home-run drought for the third baseman. His fantasy utility didn't completely disappear during the power outage, as Arenado still batted .304 while scoring seven runs and driving in seven over that stretch. That said, his ISO stills sits at .209 for the season, his worst showing in the category since his rookie year and 59 points below his mark from 2019.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Perfect at dish

Machado went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBI on Tuesday against the Rockies.

He is now hitting .308/.376/.586 with 12 home runs and four steals in 169 at-bats. The Padres hung 10 runs on Colorado in the first two innings alone, so Machado was eventually pulled late in the game as manager Jayce Tingler emptied the bench.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Won't return Tuesday

Longoria (glute) is doing better but will sit for at least one more day, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Longoria was scratched from the lineup Monday against Arizona with right glute soreness and remains day-to-day. Pablo Sandoval will make another start at third base in his absence.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Could return during road trip

Senzel (undisclosed) could join the Reds for this week's road-trip stops in Chicago or St. Louis, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. "It's still a build-up process for Nick. It takes time to be able to jump into this part of the season," manager David Bell said Sunday. "We have to make sure his body is completely built up. If not, you can really expose a player to an injury. We've seen it a lot this year already. We have to do what's best for Nick and encourage him to give us the proper feedback so that we can work together and get him back at the right time."

The Reds pulled Senzel from a victory line Aug. 16 and placed him on the injured list Aug. 19, right before they resumed play following a series of postponements. Senzel said on Instagram last week that he was "one step closer to returning to the field" and has reportedly been working out at the team's alternate training site. Bell makes a fair point about not wanting to rush Senzel, a player with a fairly lengthy injury history at 25 years old. That being said, Cincinnati's playoff hopes are still alive -- if barely -- and the team could always ease Senzel back into action by deploying him off the bench initially.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Posts fourth stolen base

Machado went 0-for-3 with a stolen base and a walk in Monday's 1-0 win over the Rockies.

Machado walked in the first inning and stole second with two outs, but he couldn't come around to score. He now has four steals, 12 homers, 35 RBI and 33 runs scored through 43 contests this season. The third baseman is slashing .295/.363/.572 through 190 plate appearances.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Drives in five

Segura went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, five RBI and two runs scored Monday against the Mets.

Segura delivered two big hits in the contest, the first coming on a bases loaded double in the opening inning. He followed that up with a game-winning two-run homer in the top of the 10th frame, his fifth long ball of the season. Overall, Segura is now hitting .261/.348/.429 with 19 runs scored and 17 RBI across 136 plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Heads to bench Monday

Escobar is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants.

Wyatt Mathisen will pick up his first big-league start at third base in place of Escobar, who went 4-for-13 with a double, an RBI and a run in the first three games of the season. Though he's seen his OPS drop more than 200 points from his 2019 mark (.831), Escobar is still expected to handle an everyday role as the 15-26 Diamondbacks play out the string on a losing season. He may be subject to one or two off days per week, however, as the Diamondbacks look to give opportunities to some of their younger infielders.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Dealing with right glute issue

Longoria was scratched from Monday's lineup against Arizona due to right glute soreness, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Longoria was sore after leaving Sunday's contest, and he'll get a day off Monday as a precautionary measure. Manager Gabe Kapler emphasized that the issue isn't serious, but the team will give him a day off to allow him to recover.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Scratched from lineup

Longoria was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Diamondbacks for an undisclosed reason, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

It's unclear what's keeping Longoria out of the lineup, but Pablo Sandoval will step in at third base in his absence. The 34-year-old went 1-for-13 with a solo home run and three strikeouts over the first three games of the series against Arizona.

  • Cubs' Ildemaro Vargas: Activated Monday

The Cubs added Vargas to their active roster ahead of Monday's game against the Cardinals, Maddie Lee of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Chicago claimed Vargas off waivers from the Twins on Saturday, but he was unavailable for the past two days while the Cubs waited for him to clear COVID-19 intake testing. The utility man will provide depth around the diamond for the Cubs, but he likely won't have a path to steady at-bats at any position.
