  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Back in action Thursday

Segura (hamstring) is starting at second base and hitting fifth in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays.

He tweaked his hamstring Sunday but will fortunately avoid a trip to the injured list. Segura was in the midst of a modest seven-game hitting streak prior to the injury, hitting .280/.400/.720 with three home runs and zero steals over that span.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Cranks sixth homer

Muncy went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during Wednesday's loss to the Mariners.

Muncy got the Dodgers on the board by swatting his sixth home run of the season, this time against Taijuan Walker leading off the second inning. The 29-year-old has been struggling this year, hitting just .176/.303/.396 with 12 RBI and 13 runs scored.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Delivers walk-off grand slam

Machado went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and a double during Wednesday's win against the Rangers.

With one out and the Padres trailing in the 10th inning, Machado came through for his team by smacking a 436-foot walk-off grand slam against Rafael Montero. He also doubled in the third. It was the second grand slam of the season and the sixth career walk-off for Machado, who now has six long balls on the year while averaging .222/.325/.455.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Productive in second game

Suarez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a stolen base and a walk in a 5-0 win over the Royals in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Suarez went back-to-back with Jesse Winker as part of a three-run third inning for the Reds. The multi-hit effort was Suarez's first of the season. He also added his first stolen base of the year after drawing a walk in the fifth inning. The third baseman is hitting just .141 with three homers, seven RBI and eight runs scored in 21 games this year.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Likely to return Thursday

Segura (hamstring) will likely return to action Thursday against the Blue Jays, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Segura was held out of the Phillies' lineup while dealing with a hamstring issue over the past two games, but manager Joe Girardi said that he should be ready to return for Thursday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays. The 30-year-old is slashing .222/.344/.426 with three home runs and four RBI this season.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Lands on injured list

Senzel was placed on the injured list Wednesday.

The Reds didn't specify a reason for the move, but it could potentially be related to the positive coronavirus test that caused the Reds' past few games to get postponed. It's possible Senzel was the person who tested positive, though players can be placed on the COVID-19 injured list merely for having been exposed to someone who tested positive, so it's difficult to know for sure. Shogo Akiyama slides to center field for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Royals.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Good for both games Wednesday

Moustakas (quadriceps) is starting at designated hitter and batting fifth in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Royals. He is also planning to play the field in the nightcap, John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

It's encouraging that Moustakas may start both games of the twin bill after being sidelined with a quad strain. This will be a homecoming of sorts, as he will be playing in Kansas City, his home city for the early phase of his career.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Heating up at plate

Newman went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Indians.

He's slashing .378/.391/.511 in 47 plate appearances in August. Newman, who stole 16 bases last season, was thrown out in his lone attempt thus far in 2020. Still, after starting the season in a 1-for-20 funk, it seems as though the infielder has found his stroke.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Another day off to heal

Segura (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Manager Joe Girardi will give Segura a second straight day off while the infielder contends with a hamstring injury. The Phillies are labeling Segura as day-to-day, leaving the team hopeful that he'll be ready to go for one or both halves of Thursday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays or the weekend series in Atlanta. Phil Gosselin will man the keystone in place of Segura on Wednesday.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Moves to second base

Escobar started at second base in place of the resting Ketel Marte in Tuesday's 10-1 win over Oakland. He went 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.

This was the first start at second base for Escobar, who played the same position 32 times in 2019. His eligibility for middle infield may end here in 2020, as second base is Marte's permanent home.
