  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Taking seat Sunday

Baty is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Baty will head to the bench for the second time in the series, with both of his absences coming against left-handed starters. He could be at risk of losing out on starts versus right-handers, too, as Jeff McNeil will see more time in the infield after the Mets acquired center fielder Cedric Mullins from the Orioles on Thursday, giving Ronny Mauricio one fewer path to playing time. Baty, Mauricio and Mark Vientos will battle for starts at third base, but Mauricio's .886 OPS this season against righties is well ahead of Baty's .729 OPS in that split.

  • Ronny Mauricio 2B | NYM

Mets' Ronny Mauricio: On bench for series finale

Mauricio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Mauricio will head to the bench while Mark Vientos starts at third base Sunday. The acquisition of Cedric Mullins at the trade deadline will limit Jeff McNeil to primarily second base, and in turn, Mauricio could be part of a committee at the hot corner with Vientos and Brett Baty.

  • Miguel Vargas 2B | CHW

White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Out with oblique strain

The White Sox placed Vargas on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a left oblique strain.

Vargas was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's 1-0 win due to the injury and will be sidelined for at least another nine days, though he doesn't have an official timeline for his return. Curtis Mead was called up from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move and could see time at first base while Vargas is out.

  • Brady House 3B | WAS

Nationals' Brady House: Taking seat Sunday

House is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

After tying a career high with three hits in a July 22 win over the Reds, House has fallen into a 5-for-30 skid at the plate while striking out 11 times over his last eight games. Jose Tena will step in at third base Sunday in place of House, who will hit the bench for the second time in four games amid his rough stretch at the dish.

  • Brewers' Anthony Seigler: Getting second straight start

Seigler will start at third base and bat seventh Sunday against the Nationals.

Seigler will make a second straight start in place of Caleb Durbin after going 1-for-4 with his second stolen base of the season in Saturday's 8-2 win. The Brewers haven't indicated that Durbin is dealing with an injury, so Seigler will likely return to a backup role during the upcoming week.

  • Caleb Durbin 3B | BOS

Brewers' Caleb Durbin: Sitting for second straight game

Durbin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

Durbin is on the bench for the second day in a row, but the Brewers have yet to indicate that his absence is the result of an injury. Anthony Seigler will pick up another start at third base at Durbin's expense after going 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 8-2 win.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Could return Monday

Muncy (knee) could return from the 10-day injured list as soon as Monday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.

Muncy has gone 3-for-12 with a walk, a run and an RBI over four games during a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City. After manning third base in those contests, Muncy is scheduled to serve as Oklahoma City's designated hitter Sunday, and the Dodgers will reassess him after the contest. Once he's cleared to return, Muncy should displace rookie Alex Freeland as the Dodgers' everyday third baseman.

  • Rays' Junior Caminero: Smacks 28th homer

Caminero went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday against the Dodgers.

Caminero went yard in the sixth inning to tally his 28th long ball of the season. He's now gone yard five times in 15 games since the All-Star break, also delivering 12 RBI and six runs scored over that stretch.

  • Miguel Vargas 2B | CHW

White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Diagnosed with oblique strain

Vargas was scratched from Saturday's game against the Angels due to a left oblique strain.

Vargas was originally slated to start at first base but was scratched just before the beginning of Saturday's contest. The White Sox later announced that Vargas is dealing with a left oblique strain and is being further evaluated. Given the nature of the injury, it wouldn't be surprising if Vargas has to miss more than just Saturday's contest, though it's not yet clear how severe the issue is. Lenyn Sosa shifted from the keystone over to first base Saturday after Vargas was pulled and may make more starts there if the latter needs to miss additional time.

  • Miguel Vargas 2B | CHW

White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Last-minute scratch Saturday

Vargas is no longer in the starting lineup against the Angels on Saturday.

Vargas was originally slated to start at first base and bat cleanup, but he was removed from the lineup just before the start of the contest. It's not immediately clear what prompted his removal. Corey Julks is entering the starting nine in Vargas' place and is playing left field, while Lenyn Sosa is shifting from the keystone to first base, among other defensive changes.
