  • Padres' Manny Machado: Not starting Sunday

Machado is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Machado will get at least the beginning of the series finale off. The third baseman returned from a shoulder injury late last week, so Sunday's rest appears to be an effort to ease him back into the swing of things slowly.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Launches 12th home run

Muncy went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Saturday's 11-6 loss to the Giants.

Muncy slammed a leadoff home run in the sixth inning off Scott Kazmir Saturday. The 30-year-old has four long balls in his last seven games. On the season, he is slashing .282/.445/.552 with 12 homers, 28 RBI and 36 runs in 211 plate appearances. His current OPS of .997 is the best of his career.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Slaps eighth homer

Longoria went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 11-6 win over the Dodgers.

Longoria took Alex Vesia deep to lead off the eighth inning Saturday. The veteran is still a threat for 20 long balls in a season and his OPS of .850 is his highest since 2012. He is one of the many reasons the Giants have been able to keep up with the other powerhouses in the National League West. The third baseman is slashing .267/.357/.493 with eight home runs, 26 RBI and 25 runs in 171 plate appearances.

  • Nick Maton DH | CHW

Phillies' Nick Maton: Not starting again

Maton is not in the starting lineup for the third consecutive game Sunday against the Rays, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Ronald Torreyes is perhaps becoming Joe Girardi's preferred replacement for Didi Gregorius (elbow), as he will start over Maton at shortstop for the third game in a row.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Scores, two hits in Game 2

Moncada went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the 3-1 win over the Orioles in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader.

Moncada was the only batter in Game 2 of the doubleheader to have multiple hits. He scored on Jose Abreu's home run in the fifth inning. Moncada totaled three hits, a home run, two RBI, three runs and two walks in the two games Saturday. The 26-year-old is slashing .284/.419/.420 in 169 plate appearances. The home run in Game 1 was Moncada's first since April 29.

  • Pirates' Ildemaro Vargas: DFA'd by Pittsburgh

Vargas was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Saturday.

The 29-year-old was claimed off waivers by the Pirates nearly two weeks ago and went 1-for-13 in seven appearances. Vargas began the season with the Cubs and went 3-for-21 before being DFA'd. He could remain in the Pirates organization should he go unclaimed on waivers.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Three hits against Miami

Devers went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Marlins.

With his little brother, Jose, getting the start at shortstop for Miami, Devers showed him how it was done, collecting his fifth multi-hit effort in the last 12 games. The 24-year-old is hitting .326 (15-for-46) over that stretch with five homers, 11 runs and 13 RBI.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Plates two runs in Game 1

Moncada went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run, two walks and an additional run scored in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles.

Moncada reached base in three of his four plate appearances and made the most of his lone knock, as he blasted his fourth long ball of the campaign during the sixth inning off reliever Shawn Armstrong. Moncada ended a poor stretch in the opening game of the twin bill, as he had gone 2-for-14 in his previous four contests.

  • Jason Vosler 3B | SEA

Giants' Jason Vosler: Sent down Saturday

Vosler was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.

Vosler appeared in each of the last three games since joining the major-league roster Wednesday, and he went 1-for-8 with a solo home run and three strikeouts. Wilmer Flores (hamstring) and Logan Webb (shoulder) were reinstated from the 10-day injured list as part of the transaction.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: On bench Saturday

Urshela will sit Saturday against the Tigers.

Urshela is technically sitting for the second time in three days, though he did start the nightcap of Thursday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays after sitting for the afternoon game. DJ LeMahieu will shift over to third base in his absence, with Mike Ford starting at first.
