Peterson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.

Peterson was sent back to the minors to make room for Freddie Freeman (wrist), who was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move. The 27-year-old owns an unimpressive .183/.274/.242 triple slash through 47 games (120 at-bats) with the Braves this season, so he'll head back to the minors, where he'll continue to serve as organizational depth.

Chapman will start at third base and bat sixth Tuesday against the White Sox, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The continued absence of Ryon Healy (back) will open up consecutive starts for both Chapman and Rajai Davis, but one of the two players will likely lose out on an everyday role once Healy is cleared to return. Given that the Athletics are 13 games under .500 and probably eager to evaluate younger assets than the 36-year-old Davis, Chapman looks like the better bet to retain regular starts. The 24-year-old, who returned from the disabled list Monday, has gone 3-for-18 with three RBI over his first five games in the big leagues.

Escobar will start at second base and bat fifth in Tuesday's game against the Angels, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Escobar will pick up his fourth consecutive start and fifth in six games, this time as a result of Brian Dozier (back) being given the day off. Dozier is expected to rejoin the lineup Wednesday, but Escobar's ability to play either spot on the left side of the infield or serve as the club's designated hitter will continue to afford him a handful of starts per week. The utility man has provided surprising value for those who have leaned on him in AL-only or deeper mixed leagues, as he's hit .282 while chipping in eight home runs and 26 RBI this season.

Candelario (knee) was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

Candelario had been nursing a sore knee and had been seeing reduced playing time anyway, making him a logical roster casualty to make room for the activation of Jason Heyward. He did see three starts in his most recent stint, but including pinch-hit appearances, was just 2-for-12 at the plate over that span. Look for Candelario to be back down the stretch if the Cubs again find themselves in need of infield help.

Valencia went 3-for-4 in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Royals.

The veteran infielder was responsible for 75 percent of the Mariners' hit output on a night in which the Royals' Ian Kennedy and three relievers stymied their offense. Valencia has four multi-hit efforts in his last eight games, although all but one of the 11 hits he's amassed in those contests have been singles. After a dreadful start at the plate this season, Valencia is now slashing .277/.337/.421 and ranks fourth on the team with 40 RBI. Long known for being particularly effective against left-handed pitching, he's actually been slightly better against righties this season, slashing .278/.328/.429 in 229 plate appearances versus that handedness.

Rendon is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mets, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.

After playing Monday evening in the series opener, Rendon will get a breather due to the quick turnaround for the Fourth of July contest, which starts at 11:05 a.m. local time. It will mark Rendon's first day off since June 20, ending a streak of 12 consecutive starts during which he carried a 1.108 OPS. Stephen Drew will fill in for Rendon at the hot corner and bat seventh.

Chapman (knee) was activated from the disabled list Monday.

Chapman was able to get through a pair of minor-league rehab games over the weekend with no issue, clearing the way for him to return to the A's for Monday's series opener against the White Sox. The 24-year-old was slashing .214/.313/.286 in four games for the big club before landing on the disabled list. He should reclaim his role as the starting third baseman upon activation, with Ryon Healy sliding back to DH and Khris Davis returning to the outfield. Matt Olson was optioned to Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move.

Vargas was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Vargas only saw action in two games during his brief stint with the Diamondbacks, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout before being sent back to the minors. With A.J. Pollock (groin) nearing a return from injury, it appears the 25-year-old was sent back to Reno to make room on the roster for him. An official corresponding roster move is expected to be announced before the team heads to LA to face the Dodgers on Tuesday. Vargas could return to the big club later in the season, but it would take a few injuries to the Diamondbacks' infield for him to see consistent playing time.

Segura went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run during Sunday's win over the Angels.

Segura is 14-for-43 through 10 games since returning from the disabled list, and he projects to remain a strong fantasy asset leading off for the Mariners. His year-long numbers are going to suffer from his two DL stints, but he's still posted a rock-solid .846 OPS with five homers, 25 RBI, eight stolen bases and 36 runs through 242 plate appearances.

Wisdom is slashing .257/.316/.493 with 16 home runs and 51 RBI across 301 plate appearances in 75 games for Triple-A Memphis.

The 25-year-old third baseman has an additional 16 extra-base hits in the form of 15 doubles and a triple, and he's seen a sizable boost in overall hard contact this season. Wisdom logged 78 games at the Triple-A level in 2016 as well, but managed only five homers, a .233 average and .141 ISO. The latter figure has jumped up nearly 100 points to .237 in 2017, which helps offset an increase in strikeout rate from 24.7 percent to 28.9 percent. Wisdom's .493 slugging percentage is also his best in any minor-league stop in which he's played at least 25 games, as are his 16 round trippers. The one conundrum with respect to a potential ascension for Wisdom is that the corner infield spots at the major-league level are currently in the capable hands of Jedd Gyorko and Matt Carpenter.
