  • Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Not starting Saturday

Rortvedt is not in Saturday's lineup against the Guardians.

Rortvedt has been getting the majority of the reps behind the plate for the Rays, but he'll be out of the lineup for the second straight game. Logan Driscoll -- who smacked the first homer of his career Friday -- will take Rortvedt's spot in the lineup.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Idle Saturday

Wong isn't in Boston's lineup for Saturday's game versus the Yankees, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Wong will get a breather Saturday after going 1-for-6 with two walks through the first two games of the series. Danny Jansen will catch instead for Brayan Bello while batting eighth.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Goes yard in Friday's win

Perez went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 8-3 win over the Pirates.

Perez provided a big knock with a homer in the second inning to cap a six-run rally. He's hit safely and driven in at least one run in five straight contests, posting two homers and eight RBI in that span. The catcher is up to 27 long balls, 103 RBI, 57 runs scored, 27 doubles and a .280/.342/.482 slash line through 145 games this season.

  • Rays' Logan Driscoll: Cracks first career homer

Driscoll went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Friday's 3-1 win at Cleveland.

The 26-year-old rookie opened the game's scoring when he slugged a 393-foot homer off Tanner Bibee in the third inning for his first career long ball. Driscoll is currently the reserve backstop in Tampa Bay behind Ben Rortvedt, and he's hitting .235 (4-for-14) over his first six MLB games. He did flash a solid bat at Triple-A Durham before his promotion, slashing .292/.367/.473 with seven homers across 293 plate appearances, so it's possible the Rays give him more playing time down the stretch.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Sitting down Friday

O'Hoppe isn't in the Angels' lineup Friday versus the Astros, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

O'Hoppe will sit down for the second consecutive game after going 4-for-22 with two home runs and four RBI to begin the month of September. Matt Thaiss will pick up another start behind the dish instead and bat fifth.

  • Seby Zavala C | SEA

Mariners' Seby Zavala: Dropped from 40-man

The Mariners designated Zavala for assignment Friday.

Just three days after rejoining the active roster Tuesday, Zavala will once again lose his spot on the Mariners' active and 40-man rosters. The 31-year-old backstop never appeared in a game during his latest stint in the majors, and he'll most likely pass through waivers unclaimed after posting a .660 OPS through 120 Triple-A plate appearances.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

    Tigers' Jake Rogers: Resting Friday

Rogers is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles.

Rogers caught four consecutive games this week while Dillon Dingler tended to an illness, but Rogers will get the night off Friday now that Dingler is healthy. Rogers is 4-for-25 (.160) with three runs scored in September.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Back in lineup

Dingler (illness) is catching and batting ninth Friday against the Orioles.

The 25-year-old rookie was held out of the lineup for back-to-back games due to illness, but he's feeling well enough to spell Jake Rogers behind the dish Friday. Dingler is slashing .141/.167/.281 in 20 games with the Tigers.

  • Royals' Freddy Fermin: Not in lineup

Fermin isn't part of the Royals' starting lineup for Friday's game against Pittsburgh.

The Royals have seemingly settled into a routine behind the plate, starting Fermin for a pair of games and then giving him a night off in favor of Salvador Perez, who has otherwise been manning first base. Kansas City has utilized this arrangement for a nine-game stretch, and with Fermin catching the past two games, it'll be Perez's turn behind the dish Friday.

  • Danny Jansen C | BOS

Red Sox's Danny Jansen: Smacks ninth home run

Jansen went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Yankees.

Jansen accounted for Boston's only run Thursday with a solo homer off Nestor Cortes in the fifth inning. It was his ninth home run of the season and third since joining the Red Sox late in July. Playing time has been hard to come by for Jansen, as he's played behind Connor Wong at catcher and has just 59 at-bats in the Boston's 45 games since the trade.
