Diaz went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, an RBI double and two total runs scored in Friday's 7-3 loss to the White Sox.

Diaz was the engine of the Astros' offense in this loss, but his contributions weren't enough. The catcher's bat has been warming up lately with three multi-hit efforts over his last seven games. Overall, he's up to a .208/.232/.365 slash line with three homers, 14 RBI, 10 runs scored, four doubles, one triple and no stolen bases over 99 plate appearances. Diaz had some struggles early in 2024 as well, but he's been one of the better offensive catchers in baseball over the last two seasons.

The Royals selected Maile's contract from Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

Salvador Perez (hip) is banged up, so Maile is up to provide protection at catcher. Maile is a career .208/.274/.319 hitter over parts of nine big-league seasons.

Perez (hip) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles.

Perez exited Thursday's game against the Rays with left hip soreness and will get at least one day off. With Perez sits, Freddy Fermin will catch and bat eighth, while Mark Canha starts at designated hitter and hits sixth for Kansas City.

The Red Sox optioned Sabol to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

With Connor Wong (finger) back from the IL, Sabol will head back to the minors to serve as organizational depth. Sabol slashed .125/.167/.188 with one double, one RBI and a pair of runs scored across 18 plate appearances with the big club.

The Red Sox activated Wong (finger) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

In a corresponding move, Boston optioned Blake Sabol to Triple-A Worcester. Wong suffered a broken finger back on April 7 but is ready to return ahead of Friday night's game against the Twins. Wong was hitting .087/.192/.087 with zero extra-base hits and zero RBI across 26 plate appearances prior to his injury.

Wong was held out of Wednesday's game due to soreness in his finger but was back behind the plate Thursday for a full game. He's caught all three games while on rehab with the WooSox and could be activated at some point during Boston's weekend series against Minnesota. Wong has not yet caught on back-to-back days, which could be a requirement before the Red Sox activate him off the 10-day injured list.

O'Hoppe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Tigers.

O'Hoppe turned in his seventh multi-hit performance of the season Thursday. The 25-year-old backstop entered Thursday with an elite 21.8 percent barrel rate on the season, and he appears to be starting another power surge after homering in five of his first seven outings of the year. Across his last seven games, O'Hoppe is batting .269 (7-for-26) with four long balls and six RBI.

Dingler went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run in Thursday's win over the Angels.

It was the second three-hit attack of the campaign by Dingler, who also matched a season high with three RBI on Thursday. Over his last 17 outings, the catcher is hitting .284 (19-for-67) with three homers, four doubles, nine RBI and five runs scored as Detroit's primary backstop. Dingler has zero walks through 87 plate appearances, so his plate discipline remains a work in progress.

Perez was removed from Thursday's game against the Rays due to left hip soreness, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

It's not clear when or how Perez was hurt, but he was pinch-hit for by Cavan Biggio in the top of the sixth inning. Consider Perez day-to-day for now, but the Royals should offer more clarity on his status after the game. He had an RBI double in one of his three plate appearances before exiting.

Pereda will start at catcher and bat ninth in Thursday's game against the Rangers.

Pereda has been with the Athletics since Opening Day but will be making just his sixth start of the season through the team's first 32 games. The 29-year-old will likely continue to see sporadic playing time so long as top backstop Shea Langeliers is healthy.
