  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Indians' Yan Gomes: Not in Thursday's lineup

Gomes is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.

Gomes has started nine of the past 11 games, including three straight, so a day off to rest could prove beneficial as the 28-year-old has collected just two hits in his last 23 at bats.

  • Alex Lavisky C | CLE

Indians' Alex Lavisky: Back on the field

Lavisky (ankle) is back in action with Triple-A Columbus.

Lavisky missed all of April with his ankle injury, but he is back on the roster for Columbus. He has appeared in just one game with Anthony Recker seeing the bulk of the playing time behind the plate for the Clippers.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Starting at catcher Wednesday

Vazquez is back in the lineup, batting eighth and starting behind the plate, Wednesday against the White Sox, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.

While Vazquez's average isn't great-hitting just .225 on the season-he's currently on a six-game hitting streak and picked up his first home run of the season in his last start on Sunday. He replaces Ryan Hanigan in the starting lineup on Wednesday.

  • Curt Casali C | ATL

Rays' Curt Casali: Blasts second homer of season in Tuesday loss

Casali went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-5 loss to the Dodgers.

The third-year catcher continues to alternate starts with offseason acquisition Hank Conger, although both backstops are currently hitting below the Mendoza line. The gopher ball Tuesday was Casali's second of the season, and only his fourth extra-base hit overall in 51 at-bats.

  • Rangers' Brett Nicholas: Optioned to Triple-A Round Rock

Nicholas was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Nicholas was seeing fairly regular playing time as the backup catcher, making two consecutive starts on Monday and Tuesday and extending his hitting streak to five games. However, with Bobby Wilson returning from Detroit via trade on Tuesday, Nicholas' services were no longer needed at the major league level.

  • Adam Moore C | TB

Indians' Adam Moore: Designated for assignment Wednesday

Moore was designated for assignment by the Indians on Wednesday.

After being added to the 40-man roster at the beginning of May, Moore did not make it into a game during his brief tenure in the big leagues. Prior to being called up, Moore was hitting just .156 in the minors with two home runs and five RBI. The Indians brought back Chris Gimenez, which made Moore surplus to the team's demands, even with Roberto Perez heading to the disabled list with a broken thumb.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

Astros' Max Stassi: Begins rehab assignment Tuesday

Stassi (wrist) will join Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday, Angel Verdejo Jr. of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Manager AJ Hinch indicated Stassi will play every other day, so it looks as though the club will play it cautiously with the catcher after suffering a fracture in the spring. It remains to be seen whether he'll stay in the minors or join the major league club once healthy, but he'll likely need a decent length rehab after sitting out six weeks.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Out of lineup Tuesday

Vazquez is not in the lineup Tuesday against the White Sox, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

With Vazquez just over a year removed from Tommy John surgery, Boston will continue to give him regular days off behind the plate. Ryan Hanigan will take over the catching duties in his stead and bat eighth.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Surgery remains a possibility

Perez (thumb) will be re-examined Thursday, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Perez suffered a broken thumb over the weekend and surgery remains a possibility pending the results of the follow up examination. The catcher has already been placed on the 15-day DL, but it sounds as though he'll need to miss more than the minimum two weeks.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Tigers' James McCann: In the lineup Tuesday

McCann is in Tuesday's lineup against the Indians.

McCann was activated off the disabled list earlier in the day, but it wasn't clear yet at the time if he'd been joining the lineup immediately. He'll handle the catching duties Tuesday and bat seventh against Cleveland starter Josh Tomlin.
