  • Angels' Sebastian Rivero: Moves into No. 2 role

Rivero is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

After starting five times in six games from last Friday through Thursday, Rivero has moved into the backup role at catcher with Logan O'Hoppe recently making his return from the 7-day injured list. Expect Rivero to see light playing time over the final week of the season.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Resting Sunday

Kirk is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Kirk will get a routine breather after he had started at catcher in the last two contests. Tyler Heineman will fill in behind the dish in the series finale.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Resting Sunday

Langeliers is not in the starting lineup Sunday versus Pittsburgh.

Langeliers will get at least a partial day off his feet after starting at catcher four of the past five days. Willie MacIver is getting a turn behind the plate for the series finale against the Pirates.

  • Nick Fortes C | TB

Rays' Nick Fortes: Playing time picking up

Fortes went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Saturday against the Red Sox.

Fortes started his second straight game behind the plate and has now been in the lineup in eight of the Rays' last 13 games. He has hit .286 with four RBI and two runs scored in that span, which could be enough to maintain a playing time advantage over Hunter Feduccia for the final week of the regular season.

  • Twins' Jhonny Pereda: Resting during nightcap

Pereda isn't in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Guardians.

Pereda will stay put in the dugout to begin Saturday's nightcap after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Game 1. Mickey Gasper will replace him as Minnesota's backstop and bat eighth.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Resting after big matinee

Naylor isn't in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Minnesota.

Naylor will catch his breath during the nightcap after going 2-for-3 with a walk and two solo home runs during a win in the early game. Austin Hedges will start behind the dish and bat ninth in Naylor's stead.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Sitting down Saturday

Wells isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles.

Wells will get some rest Saturday after going 5-for-10 with two RBI and three runs scored over his last four contests. Ben Rice will start behind the dish instead, clearing the way for Paul Goldschmidt to start at first base.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Continues to pile up RBI

Naylor went 2-for-4 with four RBI in Friday's 6-2 win over Minnesota.

Naylor matched a career high in RBI, extending his hitting streak to seven games as well. The catcher is also riding a four-game RBI streak, during which he's totaled 10 of his 42 RBI for the season. Naylor is certainly getting hot at the right time for the playoff-hopeful Guardians, batting .302 over 43 at-bats in the month of September despite hitting a dismal .191 for the campaign.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Getting breather

Dingler is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus Atlanta.

It's a routine day off after Dingler started at catcher each of the previous five contests. Jake Rogers will be behind the dish and bat ninth for the Tigers on Friday.

  • Khadim Diaw C | MIN

Twins' Khadim Diaw: Productive when healthy

Diaw missed the final month of the season for High-A Cedar Rapids due to a hamstring strain, Jeff Johnson of The Gazette reports.

Diaw was excellent when he played (161 wRC+), but injuries have limited his availability dating back to college. He dealt with a back fracture, broken left thumb, and a sprained writst while at Loyola Marymount University, and he missed June and July of this year due to another broken thumb. An athletic catcher with upside on both sides of the ball, Diaw slashed .297/.450/.445 with four home runs, four steals, an 11.8 percent walk rate and a 17.8 percent strikeout rate in 42 games, primarily for the Kernels. He'll likely spend most of his age-22 season at Double-A, where staying healthy will be paramount, as Diaw has been limited to 66 games since getting drafted in the third round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.
