  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Drives in only run Friday

Langeliers went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a walk in a loss to the Astros on Friday.

Langeliers' third-inning two-bagger plated Esteury Ruiz with what would be the Athletics' only run of the night. The success at the plate Friday was an extension of a productive run with the bat for the young backstop, as he's now hitting .300 (9-for-30) with a pair of doubles, a home run, four RBI, five walks and three runs over his last eight games.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | NYM

Yankees' Ben Rortvedt: Set for debut with Yankees

Rortvedt is starting at catcher and batting ninth Saturday versus the Reds.

Rortvedt will make his debut with the Yankees after he was acquired via trade from the Twins in March of 2022. The 25-year-old has had a strong season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, batting .324 with three homers, 10 RBI and four runs scored over 37 at-bats in 10 games. With Jose Trevino (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list, Rortvedt will split time behind the plate with Kyle Higashioka.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATL

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Out of lineup Saturday

Heim is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Rockies.

Heim will get a breather after he went 3-for-18 with two RBI, two runs scored, two walks and four punchouts while starting the last five games. Sandy Leon will take over behind the plate and bat ninth against Colorado.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Sitting again Saturday

Kirk is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Orioles.

Kirk will remain on the bench for a second straight game Saturday after he went 2-for-11 with a double and two strikeouts during the Toronto's three-game set with the Yankees earlier in the week. Danny Jansen will draw another start behind the plate and bat sixth against Baltimore.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Remains out of lineup

Grandal (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus Kansas City.

As expected, Grandal will remain on the bench Saturday as he tends to his ailing hamstring. Seby Zavala will draw another start behind the plate and bat ninth against the Royals.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Likely out next two games

Grandal (hamstring) isn't starting Friday against the Royals and probably won't catch Saturday either, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said the team wanted to give Grandal time to rest his hamstring, which has been giving him problems over the past week. The veteran backstop is available to pinch hit, but Seby Zavala will start behind the dish until Grandal is fully recovered.

  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

Angels' Matt Thaiss: Sitting Friday against Twins

Thaiss is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Twins.

Thaiss has seen the majority of playing time behind the plate lately for the Angels, but he'll get a day off Friday. Chad Wallach is starting behind the plate and hitting eighth.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Nearly plays hero Thursday

Rutschman went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and two walks in a loss to the Angels on Thursday.

Rutschman's seventh-inning two-run homer gave Baltimore its first lead of the game, but the Angels responded with a pair of runs in the eighth to pull out the victory. The young catcher is up to seven homers and 24 RBI through 44 games on the campaign, putting him past the halfway mark in reaching the 13 long balls and 42 RBI he posted over 113 contests as a rookie last season. Rutschman has gone deep three times in his past nine games, slashing .345/.457/.724 with six RBI and a 6:5 BB:K over that span.

Yankees' Ben Rortvedt: Recalled to MLB roster

The Yankees recalled Rortvedt from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Needing depth at catcher with Jose Trevino (hamstring) landing on the IL, the Yankees will give Rortvedt his first taste of MLB action since 2021. The oft-injured 25-year-old was off to a terrific start this season in the Yankees' minor-league system, slashing .327/.421/.612 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 14 games between Single-A, Double-A and Triple-A. He could share time behind the plate with Kyle Higashioka in Trevino's absence.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Heads to IL with strained hamstring

Trevino was placed on the 10-day injured list by the Yankees on Thursday with a strained hamstring.

Trevino evidently must have tweaked his hamstring during Wednesday's game and will be sidelined for at least the next 10 days. Ben Rortvedt has been recalled and will share catching duties with Kyle Higashioka.
