  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Not starting Game 1

Maldonado isn't starting Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Blasts 12th homer

Grandal went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 9-3 loss to Seattle.

Grandal got the White Sox on the board in the second inning with his 12th long ball of the season. The 32-year-old served as the designated hitter Friday -- he's seen a slight majority of the playing time behind the dish, but the White Sox have preferred to keep his bat in the lineup when Zack Collins is the catcher. Grandal is slashing .175/.385/.419 with 30 RBI and 35 runs scored through 219 plate appearances.

In his last seven games, Heim has gone 10-for-22 (.455) with three doubles, a home run, five RBI and four runs scored. He's likely to continue splitting time with Jose Trevino, although Heim has most often filled the backup role behind the dish.

  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Takes seat Friday

Maldonado is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Detroit, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

He'll get a rest after catching the previous three games. Jason Castro will bat ninth and catch Framber Valdez during the second game of the four-game set.

McGuire went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's win over the Orioles.

It's the third time in his last five starts McGuire has rapped out at least three hits as he continues to thrive in a starting role while Danny Jansen (hamstring) is sidelined. The hot streak has added 120 points to McGuire's batting average on the season, boosting his slash line to .324/.367/.459 through 80 plate appearances.

  • Indians' Austin Hedges: Two hits in return

Hedges (concussion) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 4-1 win over Minnesota.

Hedges required just a minimum stay on the 7-day injured list, and he was strong in his return to the lineup, knocking in the game-tying run with an RBI single in the second. He got aboard with another single in the eighth and scored on Eddie Rosario's two-run single. Hedges is slashing just .157/.216/.250 with three home runs, eight RBI, nine runs scored and a double through 119 plate appearances. He should be Cleveland's primary catcher going forward, while Rene Rivera will serve as his backup.

Vazquez was responsible for half of Boston's four hits, singling off Michael Wacha in the fifth inning and Ryan Thompson in the seventh. Sanchez went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Royals.

Sanchez took Anthony Swarzak yard in the sixth inning to record his 13th homer of the season. It was his second long ball in as many games, and he has now recorded seven home runs in his last 13 contests. That's improved his line to .240/.344/.503 with 27 runs scored and 29 RBI across 212 plate appearances on the campaign.
