  • Dodgers' Yasmani Grandal: Out for Game 1 Wednesday

Grandal is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader in Coors Field, the Los Angeles Times' Andy McCullough reports.

Grandal likely wasn't going to catch both games Wednesday, so with him sitting out the day game, his owners should expect him back for the nightcap. Carlos Ruiz will start behind the dish and hit seventh in Game 1.

  • Marlins' J.T. Realmuto: Hits seventh homer in loss Tuesday

Realmuto went 2-for-4 with a home run in a 7-4 loss against the Mets on Tuesday.

Realmuto has struggled somewhat of late, hitting just .208 in his last seven games. Yet he's been solid overall in 2016, hitting .304 with 11 steals, the most of any catcher in baseball. Part of Realmuto's value lies in his playing time, as he gets fewer days off than most other catchers and ranks fourth among all catchers in at-bats.

  • Padres' Christian Bethancourt: Leaves game with intercostal strain

Bethancourt left Tuesday's game with a left intercostal strain.

The Padres may be forced to bring Austin Hedges up a bit early if Bethancourt is deemed unavailable for Wednesday's game, as Derek Norris is now the only healthy backstop currently on the 25-man roster. Bethancourt went 0-for-2 prior to exiting and is batting just .188 (13-for-69) with one homer for the month of August.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Remains out Tuesday

Barnhart (hand) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Angels, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Make it five straight absences for Barnhart, who will be replaced behind the plate Tuesday by Rafael Lopez. With rosters set to expand in a couple days, there shouldn't be a need to put Barnhart on the DL, but a possible return date remains up in the air. He has not appeared off the bench in any of the team's last four games.

  • Dodgers' Yasmani Grandal: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Grandal is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies.

Grandal went 0-for-9 with four strikeouts over his last three starts and the Dodgers will take on left-hander Tyler Anderson on Tuesday, so manager Dave Roberts decided to hold him out. Carlos Ruiz will get the start behind the plate in Grandal's place.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Remains out Monday

Barnhart (hand) is not in the lineup Monday against the Angels.

Monday marks the fourth consecutive game that Barnhart has sat out with a sore hand. As of now, the Reds haven't indicated the severity of his injury or if Barnhart will need a stint on the DL. With Barnhart out of Monday's game, Ramon Cabrera will start behind the dish and hit ninth for the Reds.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Will receive September call-up

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Barnes would be recalled from the minors when rosters expand Sept. 1, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.

Barnes will serve as the Dodgers' No. 3 catcher behind Yasmani Grandal and Carlos Ruiz while also assuming a utility role around the infield. Everyday at-bats won't be in the offing for Barnes, who has slashed .292/.378/.435 over 377 plate appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City, but given how many injuries the Dodgers have suffered throughout this season, the quality depth he provides won't be taken for granted.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Remains out with sore hand

Barnhart (hand) is out of Sunday's lineup against the Diamondbacks, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Barnhart will remain out of the lineup with a sore hand, giving way to Ramon Cabrera behind the dish. Until further notice, consider Barnhart day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener versus the Angels.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Out of Sunday's lineup

Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Contreras had a good showing at the plate Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. However, he'll have a maintenance day Sunday as David Ross gets the nod to start behind the dish against Brock Stewart and the Dodgers.

  • Brewers' Martin Maldonado: Not in Sunday's lineup

Maldonado is sitting out Sunday against Pittsburgh.

Manny Pina will start behind the dish as Maldonado gets the day off. Maldonado has started four of Milwaukee's last seven games and has gone just 3-for-14 over said outings.
