Amaya isn't in the Cubs' lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals.

Amaya has been white-hot recently, going 13-for-26 with two homers, 13 RBI and seven runs scored over his last seven games. He'll get a chance to rest Saturday while Christian Bethancourt starts behind home plate and bats ninth.

Ruiz isn't in the Nationals' lineup for Saturday's game versus the Cubs.

Ruiz will get a breather Saturday after going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts during a loss in Friday's series opener. Drew Millas will catch instead for southpaw DJ Herz while batting eighth.

Smith went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk in Friday's 10-9 win over the Diamondbacks.

Smith's seventh-inning blast gave the Dodgers some insurance they would wind up needing when Arizona struck for four runs in the ninth. The catcher has had a largely forgettable August, going 12-for-68 (.176) over 19 contests. He's hit two homers and driven in 10 runs in that span. For the season, Smith has a .243/.325/.428 slash line with 17 homers, 66 RBI, 63 runs scored and 22 doubles across 108 games.

Del Castillo is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

The Diamondbacks are facing a lefty in Clayton Kershaw for the third time in four games, meaning the lefty-hitting Del Castillo will give way to Jose Herrera behind the plate once again. In 15 games with the D-Backs, Del Castillo is slashing .347/.418/.571 with three homers, 14 RBI and nine runs.

Romo is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Baltimore.

Romo will give way to Jacob Stallings behind the dish Friday against Albert Suarez and the Orioles. Romo is 6-for-27 (.222) with a pair of doubles in seven games with Colorado.

Higashioka is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Tampa Bay.

He'll receive a day of rest after catching three of the previous four contests for the Padres. Luis Campusano will be behind the dish for the series opener versus the Rays.

Herrera is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees.

Herrera had started three of the Cardinals previous four games, but he'll give way to Pedro Pages behind the plate Friday. Since being called up Sunday, Herrera is 3-for-12 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Thursday's win over the Rockies.

The catcher came into the game with zero pilfers in 36 career big-league games and has never swiped more than two bags in a minor-league season, but Sanchez came home on a double steal with Connor Norby in the fourth inning before nabbing second base himself in the sixth. Sanchez has moved into a timeshare with Nick Fortes of late, starting four of the last eight games including the last two against right-handed pitchers, but Thursday's performance in Coors Field was his first multi-hit effort since July 12.

Stephenson is absent from the lineup in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Brewers.

He'll get a breather for the afternoon contest but should catch the second game of the twin bill. Luke Maile will be behind the dish for the early game.

Barnes went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Orioles.

Barnes doubled in his second trip to the plate, sending home Gavin Lux and Chris Taylor to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead. The backstop then added a leadoff single in the eighth before stealing second and coming around to score. It marked Barnes' first multi-hit performance since July 25, while the stolen base was just his second of the campaign. He was making his return to the lineup following a 10-day stint on the injured list due to a broken toe. Prior to Thursday's two-hit effort, he was batting .052 (1-for-19) in August.
