  • Tomas Nido C | DET

    Cubs' Tomas Nido: Idle Tuesday

Nido isn't in the Cubs' lineup Tuesday versus the Brewers.

While Nido and Miguel Amaya have been splitting time behind the plate recently, Tuesday's game will be the second consecutive one on the bench for Nido, his first set of consecutive absences since June 25-26. Amaya is batting eighth Tuesday after going 1-for-3 with two walks in Monday's 3-1 win over the Brewers.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Sitting out Tuesday

Alvarez is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Yankees.

Alvarez will get a breather after going just 1-for-12 with four strikeouts to start off his second half. Luis Torrens will do the catching for the Mets on Tuesday.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

    Braves' Sean Murphy: Idle Tuesday

Murphy is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Murphy is hitless in his last 13 at-bats but has more walks (three) than strikeouts (two) during that stretch. Travis d'Arnaud will catch and bat cleanup Tuesday.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

    Pirates' Joey Bart: Resting Tuesday

Bart is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Bart will yield to Yasmani Grandal behind the plate Tuesday after catching back-to-back games. Prior to the All-Star break, Bart seemed to supplant Grandal as the Pirates' preferred catcher, and he's caught three of Pittsburgh's first five contests coming out of the break.

  • Nick Fortes C | TB

    Marlins' Nick Fortes: Sitting again

Fortes is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles.

Fortes will be on the bench for a second consecutive game after committing three errors Sunday. Ali Sanchez will bat ninth and catch Tuesday.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: On base three times in loss

Bailey went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Bailey went 0-for-8 over the first three games following the All-Star break, but Monday was his fifth multi-hit effort in July. The catcher's hitting .255 (12-for-47) this month and has been steady overall with a .278/.351/.419 slash line, seven home runs, three steals, 32 RBI and 32 runs scored across 73 contests this season.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Sitting again Monday

Diaz (calf) is absent from the Rockies' lineup Monday against the Red Sox.

Diaz left in the third inning of Saturday's win over the Giants due to right calf tightness, and it appears to be bothering him enough to sideline him for a second straight game. Jacob Stallings will start behind the plate Monday and bat seventh against Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck.

  • Nick Fortes C | TB

Marlins' Nick Fortes: Heading to bench Monday

Fortes is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Fortes will get a chance to clear his head after committing three errors in Sunday's win over New York. Ali Sanchez will spell Fortes at catcher, forming a battery with starting pitcher Yonny Chirinos.

  • Pedro Pages C | STL

Cardinals' Pedro Pages: Getting start in series opener

Pages will start at catcher and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Pirates.

Even though his playing time has been sporadic in recent weeks following Willson Contreras' return from the injured list, Pages has continued to hold his own at the plate when included in the lineup. He'll take a nine-game hitting streak into the series opener in Pittsburgh, though only two of the 11 hits he's recorded during that stretch have gone for extra bases.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Smacks homer in Sunday's win

Contreras went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-2 win over Atlanta.

Contreras also struck out three times, his first game with multiple strikeouts since July 10. The catcher is hitting .317 (19-for-60) with five homers and 13 RBI over 16 contests this month. For the season, he's up to 11 long balls, 26 RBI, 33 runs scored, 13 doubles, three stolen bases and a .279/.402/.521 slash line across 229 plate appearances. While his strikeout rate is 27.1 percent -- the second-highest mark of his career -- he's offset it with a personal-best 14.8 percent walk rate.
