D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.

D'Arnaud will effectively get two straight rest days; Wednesday's game was postponed, and he'll now hit the bench for Thursday's series finale while Chadwick Tromp draws the start behind the plate. While Sean Murphy (oblique) remains on the 10-day injured list, d'Arnaud should continue to see the bulk of the starts at catcher.

The Cardinals will look to continue giving Herrera consistent playing time even after Willson Contreras (hand) is available to catch, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Contreras hopes to be able to catch this weekend in Arizona after missing four games and then being limited to designated hitter duty in the last two contests. With Lars Nootbaar (ribs) also due back Friday, it creates a bit of a playing time logjam for the Cards. Herrera, though, has earned regular reps, putting up an .875 OPS with three homers and seven RBI in nine games. The 23-year-old should continue to be worth using as a second fantasy catcher as long as he's getting at-bats.

Herrera went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Phillies.

Herrera got the Cardinals on the board with his second-inning homer. He's gone deep twice over the last three games and now has three homers, seven RBI and six runs scored across 34 plate appearances. As long as Willson Contreras (hand) continues to be unable to catch, Herrera is in line for a larger role behind the dish.

The Nationals optioned Millas to Triple-A Rochester after Wednesday's loss to the Giants.

The 26-year-old was called up ahead of Wednesday's contest and started behind the plate, going 1-for-3 with a bunt single. Millas was only promoted since starting catcher Keibert Ruiz was unavailable due to an illness, and Ruiz will presumably be available for Friday's series opener in Oakland.

Bethancourt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Bethancourt and Nick Fortes have both alternated turns at catcher over the last six games, with both logging three starts apiece. For the season, Bethancourt owns an .050 OPS to Fortes' .229, so neither backstop is doing much to separate himself from the other in the competition for reps behind the plate.

Maile will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Maile will get his fifth start behind the plate in the Reds' 12th game of the season Wednesday while Tyler Stephenson rests. Though Stephenson still appears to be viewed as the Reds' No. 1 catcher, Maile looks like he'll get the chance to start once per series while Cincinnati looks to keep Stephenson fresh for the duration of the campaign.

Stephenson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Stephenson will give way to Luke Maile behind the plate after catching in both of the first two games of the series with Milwaukee. Through 10 games this season, Stephenson is hitting a respectable .259 but has yet to provide a home run and has been limited to three RBI and three runs.

Gomes is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Gomes popped his first home run of the season in Tuesday's 5-1 win but will get a breather a day later. Miguel Amaya will check in behind the plate in Wednesday's series finale.

Ruiz is unavailable Wednesday due to illness, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

It provides an explanation as to why Ruiz is out of the Nationals' lineup for the second day in a row. The Nats have an off day Thursday, so Ruiz should have a shot to be ready for their next game Friday in Oakland.

Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said Wednesday that Quero will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Quero suffered the injury in Triple-A Nashville's first game of the season while diving back into first base on a pickoff attempt. His rehab from surgery is expected to take around nine months, so Quero should be ready for the start of spring training. The 21-year-old was added to the Brewers' 40-man roster last offseason after posting a .779 OPS with 16 home runs at Double-A Biloxi in 2023.
