  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: On bench Sunday

Ruiz is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Brewers.

Ruiz will get a breather Sunday after playing in Saturday's night game. In his two games played versus the Brewers in the series, he has gone 1-for-9. Drew Millas gets the start at catcher and will bat seventh.

  • Elias Diaz C | TEX

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Gets Sunday off

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Giants.

Diaz started in the night game of the doubleheader Saturday but not in the first game. The catcher will get the expected day off Sunday with it being a day game after a night game. In the series against the Giants, Diaz has gone 1-for-7. Austin Wynns will get the start at catcher Sunday.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Not in Sunday's lineup

Murphy is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Atlanta continues to give Murphy plenty of rest down the stretch, as he's started just seven games so far in September. Travis d'Arnaud will receive another look behind the plate for the NL East champions.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Scores three times Saturday

Gomes went 2-for-6 with a double and three runs scored in Saturday's extra-innings loss to the Diamondbacks.

The Cubs and Diamondbacks ended up playing 13 innings, with Gomes behind the plate for all of them. He also contributed offensively as his strong campaign continued. The veteran is now batting .272 with a .725 OPS. Both figures would be his highest since the shortened 2020 season. In terms of full seasons, you have to go back to 2018 to find a better OPS and 2014 to find a better average for Gomes, who should continue to see heavy work as Chicago looks to clinch a playoff spot.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Delivers winning run in extras

Moreno went 2-for-4 with two walks, a stolen base and an RBI in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Cubs.

Moreno's opposite-field, walk-off single scored Evan Longoria, who adjusted his slide to avoid the tag, as the Diamondbacks won a second straight game against the team ahead of them in the wild-card standings. After going 4-for-4 in Friday's win, Moreno has reached base eight times in 10 plate appearances over the first two games of the series.

  • Luke Maile C | KC

Reds' Luke Maile: Scratched with bruised hand

Maile was scratched from the lineup Saturday against the Mets due to a bruised left hand.

Tyler Stephenson had been due for a day off but will instead start behind the plate. Assuming Maile's injury doesn't turn out to be anything worse than a bruise, he should be back in the lineup soon.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: On bench Saturday afternoon

Bailey will hit the bench for the first portion of Saturday's doubleheader against Colorado, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Blake Sabol will start behind the plate in the afternoon contest, but Bailey should return to the lineup for the nightcap. Bailey hit .329/.356/.571 in his first 20 MLB games this season, but he's since hit a modest .223/.289/.327 across 66 contests.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Racks up four hits

Moreno went 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Friday's 6-4 win over the Cubs.

Moreno's four-hit effort snapped a stretch of nine games without a multi-hit performance, during which he went 4-for-22 (.182). The catcher hit .327 in August, but he'd cooled off early in September. He has a .286/.333/.419 slash line with seven home runs, 43 RBI, 30 runs scored, five stolen bases and 17 doubles through 99 contests on the year.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Day off Friday

Alvarez isn't in the Mets' lineup Friday against Cincinnati, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez will get a day off Friday despite collecting a hit in each of his last three games -- including a home run Tuesday. Omar Narvaez will start behind the plate and bat ninth while Alvarez sits.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Gets breather Friday

Murphy isn't in Atlanta's lineup Friday against Miami, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Travis d'Arnaud will start behind the dish for Atlanta in Friday's series opener after Murphy has failed to record a hit in his last eight trips to the plate.
