    Mets' Gary Sanchez: Reaches minors deal with Mets

    Sanchez signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Tuesday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

    Sanchez opted out of his minor-league deal with the Giants last week after hitting just .164/.319/.182 with zero home runs and 19 strikeouts in 16 games at Triple-A Sacramento. The Mets will hope he can rediscover his power stroke at Triple-A Syracuse and give them some needed catching depth with Omar Narvaez (calf) slated to miss at least another month.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Racks up three hits, steals base

    Moreno went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base against Miami in a 5-2 victory Monday.

    Moreno posted his second three-hit performance of the season, with his single in the sixth inning plating one of Arizona's five runs. The catcher also stole his first base as a big-leaguer in the fifth, though he was stranded at second. Moreno has been mostly as advertised so far this season, posting a standout .315 batting average but producing just one home run through 89 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Drives in two runs

    Contreras went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 3-1 win over the Cubs.

    Making his return to Wrigley Field, Contreras knocked in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning with an RBI double and brought home an insurance run in the eighth. He has multiple hits in four of his last eight games, going 10-for-34 (.294) during that stretch. Contreras improved his season slash line to .273/346/.405 with 12 extra-base hits and 16 RBI through 136 plate appearances.

    Giants' Joey Bart: Gets Monday off

    Bart isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

    Bart will take a seat for a second straight day after also sitting out of Sunday's series finale against the Brewers. Blake Sabol draws the start behind the dish and will bat seventh in Bart's place.

    Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Heads to bench Monday

    Amaya is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.

    After starting three of the past four games at catcher while going 2-for-7 with a pair of RBI, Amaya will take a seat for the series opener with St. Louis while Tucker Barnhart checks in behind the dish. Amaya's run with the big club will likely come to an end soon, as Yan Gomes (concussion) took part in all baseball activities Monday and may be ready to return from the 7-day injured list later this week.

    Cubs' Yan Gomes: Going through baseball activities

    Gomes (concussion) will go through normal baseball activities Monday, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports.

    It would seem to be a good sign that Gomes' return in imminent, provided he doesn't experience any setbacks. He's eligible for activation Tuesday. Tucker Barnhart and Miguel Amaya have been sharing catching duties since Gomes' concussion.

    Dodgers' Will Smith: Gets maintenance day

    Smith is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

    Smith was probably overdue for a day off after he had started nine consecutive games at either catcher or designated hitter since returning from a concussion April 28. Austin Barnes will form a battery with starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin on Monday while Smith gets a breather for the series opener in Milwaukee.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: At DH in return to Wrigley

    Contreras is starting at designated hitter and batting fifth for the Cardinals on Monday versus the Cubs, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

    In his first game back at Wrigley Field since signing with the Cardinals, Contreras will occupy the DH spot which will be his new home in the coming weeks. Andrew Knizner will catch Miles Mikolas.

    Rockies' Austin Wynns: Two RBI in first start with Rox

    Wynns went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI on Sunday against the Mets.

    Wynns drew his first start with the Rockies on Sunday, hitting eighth in the order. He delivered an RBI single in the fifth inning and followed that up with a sacrifice fly four frames later. Wynns should serve as the backup catcher in Colorado behind Elias Diaz for the foreseeable future.

  • Braves' Chadwick Tromp: Sent to Triple-A

    Atlanta optioned Tromp to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

    Tromp will head back to Triple-A after Travis d'Arnaud (concussion) was reinstated from his rehab assignment Monday. Tromp operated as Atlanta's backup catcher for about a month, going 1-for-16 with a double, an RBI and a run scored with seven strikeouts in limited action at the plate.
