  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Work picking up, but sits Wednesday

Barnes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Since Will Smith (concussion) last played April 12 before going on the 7-day injured list a few days later, Barnes has started at catcher in four of the Dodgers' past six games. Austin Wynns will get the nod behind the dish Wednesday, but Barnes should remain the Dodgers' preferred option at the position until Smith is back from the IL, likely no earlier than Friday.

  • Tomas Nido C | DET

Mets' Tomas Nido: Gets rest Wednesday

Nido is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

Nido will duck out of the starting nine after he was behind the plate both Monday and Tuesday. Rookie Francisco Alvarez will catch for starting pitcher Max Scherzer in the series finale in Los Angeles.

  • Pirates' Austin Hedges: Resting Wednesday

Hedges is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

Hedges is getting a breather for the series finale after he started behind the plate each of the past three days while going 2-for-12 with a walk, a stolen base, two runs and two RBI. Jason Delay will form a battery with starting pitcher Johan Oviedo on Wednesday.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Gets rest Wednesday

Gomes will sit Wednesday versus the Athletics.

Gomes will take a seat after he went 2-for-8 with two RBI and a run scored over the first two games of the series. Tucker Barnhart will take over behind the plate and bat ninth as the Cubs go for the sweep against Oakland.

  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Homers twice Tuesday

Contreras went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Diamondbacks.

A brutal fourth inning put the Cardinals in a five-run hole, but Contreras nearly hit them out of it. He went yard in the seventh and ninth innings, but the comeback fell one run short. The catcher has strung together three multi-hit games, tallying two homers, three doubles and five RBI in that span. He's up to a .254/.323/.424 slash line through 65 plate appearances, and he's also logged two stolen bases over 17 games.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Gets day off Wednesday

Diaz will sit Wednesday against the Pirates.

Diaz will take a seat after he went 2-for-8 with a double, two RBI and three strikeouts over the first two games of the series. Brian Serven will take over behind the plate and bat ninth in the series finale with Pittsburgh.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Gets day off Wednesday

Moreno is out of the lineup Wednesday versus St. Louis.

Moreno will get a breather after he went 2-for-6 with a homer, a double, three RBI and two runs scored over the first two games of the series. With Arizona looking to finish off the sweep Wednesday, Jose Herrera will take over behind the plate and bat ninth against the Cardinals.

  • Blake Sabol C | BOS

Giants' Blake Sabol: Sitting against lefty

Sabol is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The lefty-hitting Sabol will sit for the second time in the series, with both of his absences coming when Miami has brought left-handers Jesus Luzardo and Trevor Rogers to the hill. Joey Bart will handle catching duties Wednesday while Heliot Ramos covers left field in the series finale.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Swats first home run

Moreno went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a home run, three RBI and a second run scored in Tuesday's 8-7 win over St. Louis.

Moreno poked his first homer, a three-run blast, as part of a six-run fourth inning. He's handling the workload of a primary catcher thus far, maintaining a .244 (11-for-45) average through 13 games. The real test will come in the second half when his plate appearances reach career-high levels.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Hits fourth homer of year

Murphy went 2-for-4 with one homer, one RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's victory over San Diego.

Murphy appears to be adjusting well to the change of scenery. The former Athletic now sports a 1.078 OPS, tied for fifth in the league through Tuesday's games. The catcher is having an excellent start to his Atlanta career, as his .431 OBP is currently good for 11th in MLB. While there's still plenty of time for the New York native to cool off, there are plenty of reasons for fantasy managers to be excited so far.
