Dodgers' Will Smith: Hoping to return Thursday
Smith (concussion) went through a full workout Monday and said that he's hoping to be able to return Thursday against the Cubs, but he doesn't want to rush back, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
Smith was placed on the 7-day injured list before Sunday's game, and he told reporters it's the first time that he's ever received a concussion. There's a good chance that the backstop is back before the end of the week, but the Dodgers will understandably take every necessary precaution before Smith is starting games behind the plate.

Austin Wynns C | ATH
Dodgers' Austin Wynns: Making team debut vs. Mets
Wynns is catching and hitting ninth for Monday's game against the Mets, Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA reports.
Wynns will be making his debut with the Dodgers after signing with the club shortly after Will Smith was placed on the concussion injured list. Austin Barnes is expected to serve as Los Angeles' No. 1 catcher for the duration of Smith's absence, but he'll give way to Wynns in the series opener.

Blake Sabol C | BOS
Giants' Blake Sabol: Sitting out versus lefty again
Sabol is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
For the fifth time in seven games, the lefty-hitting Sabol will take a seat while the Giants face off against another southpaw (Jesus Luzardo). The Giants' recent lefty-heavy slate has made it difficult to get a handle on whether Sabol will continue to maintain a strong-side platoon role at either catcher or left field, or if he'll start to lose out on opportunities against right-handed pitching after slashing .194/.256/.361 through the first 12 games of his MLB career.

Jacob Stallings C | BAL
Marlins' Jacob Stallings: Heads to bench Monday
Stallings is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
After catching in three of the Marlins' last four games, Stallings will take a seat for the series opener versus San Francisco in what appears to be a maintenance day. Nick Fortes will catch for starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo on Monday.

Willson Contreras C | BOS
Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Reaches base three times in win
Contreras went 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 5-4 extra-innings' win over the Pirates.
Contreras notched his first multi-hit game since April 2 and tallied his second RBI over the last three games. It's been a slow start to the year for the three-time All-Star, as he raised his slash line to .200/.286/.240 with his efforts Sunday afternoon and will look to find more of a groove at the plate heading into the new week.

Brett Sullivan C | COL
Padres' Brett Sullivan: Called up by Friars
Sullivan was promoted from Triple-A El Paso by the Padres on Sunday.
The 29-year-old has been called up for his first taste of the big leagues, with Luis Campusano dealing with a jammed thumb. Campusano has avoided the injured list for now, so it could be a brief run as San Diego's No. 2 backstop for Sullivan.

Austin Wynns C | ATH
Dodgers' Austin Wynns: Inks major-league deal
Wynns agreed to a major-league contract with the Dodgers on Sunday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
The 32-year-old elected free agency Friday after being designated for assignment by the Giants, and he quickly found a new home with Will Smith (concussion) headed to the 7-day injured list. Austin Barnes should serve as the Dodgers' primary backstop while Smith is out, with Wynns filling the backup role.

Will Smith C | LAD
Dodgers' Will Smith: Placed on concussion injured list
Smith was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list by the Dodgers on Sunday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Smith has been out of the lineup for the Dodgers since Friday with what has been described as an illness. The backstop will miss at least a week of action with the Dodgers taking careful precautions with their 28-year-old starting backstop. The Dodgers have signed Austin Wynns in a corresponding move, but Austin Barnes should see the majority of reps behind the plate while Smith is out.

Tomas Nido C | DET
Mets' Tomas Nido: On bench Sunday
Nido is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
It's the second straight day on the bench for Nido after he started the previous two contests. Francisco Alvarez is starting behind the plate and catching ninth Sunday, and it appears the pair will split playing time relatively evenly with Omar Narvaez (calf) on the injured list.

Luis Campusano C | SD
Padres' Luis Campusano: Nursing jammed thumb
Campusano had X-rays on his jammed thumb come back negative Sunday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
The 24-year-old apparently suffered the injury a couple days ago while catching a bullpen session, and he's dealing with some significant swelling. It's unclear if Campusano will require a trip to the injured list, but Brett Sullivan has joined the club to potentially serve as catching depth.
