  • Brewers' William Contreras: Sitting Saturday

Contreras is not in Saturday's lineup against the Athletics.

Contreras is hitting .207 with one home run in 29 at-bats this month. Victor Caratini will start behind the dish and hit eighth.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Heads to bench Saturday

Murphy is not in Saturday's lineup against the Nationals.

Murphy is hitting .342 with two home runs over his last 10 games. Travis d'Arnaud will start behind the dish and bat fifth.

  • Pirates' Austin Hedges: Rare offensive contribution

Hedges went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI on Friday against the Mets.

Hedges hit a ground-rule double to the opposite field in the second to drive in two, marking only his fifth extra-base hit of the season. He's been relatively productive by collecting five hits in 18 at-bats across his last five games, though he still has a dreadful .179 average for the season across 122 plate appearances. With both Henry Davis and Endy Rodriguez currently playing at Triple-A Indianapolis, Hedges could also be at risk of losing playing time in the relatively near future.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Padres' Gary Sanchez: Keeps power up Friday

Sanchez went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 9-6 win over the Rockies.

Sanchez has homered three times over his last four games while adding seven RBI in that span. All five of his homers on the year have come in 10 games with San Diego after he bounced around multiple organizations to start the year. He's at a .275/.318/.700 slash line through 44 plate appearances. The power may be legit, but he won't bat that well all year -- he hasn't hit higher than .232 over the last five seasons.

  • Joey Bart C | ATL

Giants' Joey Bart: Evaluated to determine next steps

Bart (groin) is being evaluated by the Giants on Friday to determine his next steps, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Bart has been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento, and the Giants will see how their backstop is recovering from the left groin strain that has sidelined him since the middle of May. It's possible Bart could be activated in the early part of next week, but his status likely won't be updated until the weekend. It's also unknown if he'll return to a starting role with Patrick Bailey receiving most of the reps behind the plate while Bart has been out.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Gets Friday off

Gomes is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Giants, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Gomes will sit the first game of the three-game set versus the Giants as the 35-year-old continues to get every other game off. Tucker Barnhart will handle catching duties and hit ninth.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Back in lineup

Bailey (neck) is starting behind the plate Friday against the Cubs, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Neck tightness kept Bailey out of the lineup Thursday, but the issue seems to have subsided ahead of Friday's contest. The 24-year-old backstop has been on a tear since earning a promotion from Triple-A Sacramento, slashing .309/.321/.545 across 58 plate appearances.

  • Tomas Nido C | DET

Mets' Tomas Nido: Outrighted to Triple-A

Nido was outrighted Friday to Triple-A Syracuse, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Nido appears willing to accept the outright assignment if he is not traded. The 29-year-old catcher passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment by the Mets this past Monday. He's a career .213/.249/.308 hitter in 805 plate appearances at the MLB level.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Not in Friday's lineup

Moreno is absent from the lineup for Friday's game againt the Tigers.

Moreno had been slated for a day off Thursday before that game got postponed, and the Diamondbacks have elected to use the opportunity to give him additional rest. Jose Herrera will catch Merrill Kelly in Moreno's place.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Goes deep twice in loss

Alvarez went 2-for-5 with two home runs, a walk and three RBI in Thursday's extra-inning loss to Atlanta.

Alvarez worked as the team's DH in the contest and justified his placement in that role with a pair of big blasts. The backstop has overcome a slow start to the campaign with a powerful 16-game stretch during which he's swatted eight homers, driven in 17 runs, scored 10 times and posted a .283/.333/.774 slash line. Alvarez is now tied for second among big-league catchers with 11 homers on the season.
