  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Starting Sunday's contest

Gomes is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Reds.

Willson Contreras gets a breather in the series finale, while Franmil Reyes will serve as the DH. The addition of Reyes has cut into Gomes' playing time, as the former is seeing most of his playing time at DH, and Gomes typically either catches or serves as the DH when he's in the lineup. At this point, the veteran simply looks like a backup to Contreras, which limits his fantasy appeal.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Out of Sunday's lineup

Contreras is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Contreras started the first two games against Cincinnati but will get the series finale off. Yan Gomes will do the catching Sunday, with Franmil Reyes slotting in as the DH. Contreras has had another good season behind the plate, supplying an .831 OPS and 17 home runs across 96 games so far.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Sitting out Sunday

Smith is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Smith went 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs and a walk in Saturday's contest, but he will be held out Sunday with the Dodgers playing a day game following a night game. Tony Wolters will replace Smith behind the plate.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

    Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Resting Sunday

Ruiz is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com.

Ruiz does not sit much, but he will get a day off with the Nationals playing a day game following a night game. Tres Barrera will take over behind the plate.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Solo homer in win

Contreras went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-2 victory over Cincinnati.

Contreras launched a solo shot in the top of the ninth inning Saturday. He now has three homers in August after hitting just one in July. It gives him 17 home runs on the year to go along with a .253 batting average. The veteran catcher put together his third multi-hit outing in 10 games this month, giving him 10 hits to six strikeouts in 38 at-bats.

  • Jason Delay C | BOS

Pirates' Jason Delay: Not starting Saturday

Delay isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Giants.

Delay is out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games after he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts during Friday's series opener. Jose Godoy will start behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Tomas Nido C | DET

Mets' Tomas Nido: Seeing more playing time

Nido is starting Saturday against the Phillies.

Nido was in a timeshare with James McCann behind the dish in early August, but the former is starting at catcher for the fifth time in the last seven games. Nido has recorded hits in six consecutive matchups, slashing .333/.364/.476 with three doubles, three runs and two RBI during that time.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: Remains on bench Saturday

McCann isn't in the lineup Saturday against Philadelphia.

McCann is out of the lineup for the fifth time in the last seven games, and he appears to have lost his job as the Mets' primary catcher for now. Tomas Nido will start behind the plate and bat ninth once again.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Giants' Joey Bart: Absent from lineup again

Bart (ankle) isn't starting Saturday against the Pirates, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Bart has been dealing with an ankle injury since Tuesday and will be held out of the lineup for a fourth consecutive game. However, the Giants hope he'll be available off the bench Saturday. Austin Wynns is starting behind the plate and batting ninth.

  • Brian Serven C | ATH

Rockies' Brian Serven: On bench Saturday

Serven isn't starting Saturday against the Diamondbacks.

Serven will get a breather after he went 2-for-6 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs over the last two games. Dom Nunez is starting at catcher and batting ninth.
