  • Pirates' Jacob Stallings: Slow start

Stallings is 3-for-16 with one double and five walks in the season's first seven games.

He reached base three times Thursday with a single and two walks. After just 21 plate appearances, Stallings is batting .188 but holds a 5:5 BB:K, and his .062 ISO is below his career mark of .108. The catcher has hit better on the road (.274/.336/.406) than at PNC Park (.244/.323/.328) in his career, and the team plays its next six games at home.

  • Tres Barrera C | WAS

Nationals' Tres Barrera: Optioned to taxi squad

Barrera was optioned to Washington's taxi squad Friday.

The 26-year-old was added to the roster last week following Washington's COVID-19 outbreak, but he's one of four players returning to the taxi squad Friday. Barrera appeared in one game and went 0-for-2.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Back from COVID list

Gomes was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday.

The 33-year-old missed the first three games of the season due to contract tracing but will rejoin the team Friday after clearing the COVID-19 protocols. According to Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com, Gomes won't start in his first game back with Jonathan Lucroy working behind the plate instead.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Out of Friday's lineup

Diaz is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

The 30-year-old will take a seat for the second straight contest with Dom Nunez receiving another start behind the plate for Colorado. Diaz started Opening Day for the Rockies, but he's started only two games since while Nunez receives his fifth start of the season Friday.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Not in Thursday's lineup

Diaz isn't starting Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Diaz was the Rockies' Opening Day starter behind the plate, but he's now started just two of the last six games. Dom Nunez will serve as the starting catcher Thursday, batting eighth.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Clubs first homer

Realmuto went 1-for-3 with a walk, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Mets.

He took Jacob Barnes deep in the fifth inning to blow the game open. It was Realmuto's first homer of the year, and the star catcher has had a productive start to the campaign by slashing .333/.391/.571 through six games with six RBI.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Sits for second game of twin bill

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Nationals.

D'Arnaud was behind the plate for all seven innings of Atlanta's 7-6 win in the front end of the twin bill, going 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Alex Jackson will draw the start at catcher in the second game while d'Arnaud gets a breather.

  • Padres' Victor Caratini: Gets rest in series finale

Caratini is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Caratini is sitting out the series finale in what amounts to little more than maintenance after he started behind the plate Monday and Tuesday. The backstop came up big at the plate in both contests, going a combined 2-for-5 with a home run, a walk and four RBI. Luis Campusano will catch for Blake Snell on Wednesday.

  • Curt Casali C | ATL

Giants' Curt Casali: Starting in day game

Casali will start at catcher and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Padres, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

He'll pick up his second start of the season while top catcher Buster Posey rests for the day game after a night game. Casali will likely be in store for around two starts per week throughout the season so long as Posey is healthy.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

    Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Receives breather

Narvaez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Narvaez looks to be getting a routine maintenance day after drawing starts behind the plate in both of the first two games of the series in Chicago. Backup catcher Manny Pina will enter the lineup Wednesday in place of Narvaez, who slugged a home run in both of his starts against the Cubs.
