  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Sparks offense in win

Barnes went 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Mariners.

Hitting ninth, Barnes flashed his savvy on the basepaths, twice scoring from second base on singles while also swiping his first bag of the year. The 30-year-old catcher extended his hitting streak to seven games, a stretch during which he's slashing .500/.520/.667, and with Will Smith (neck) sidelined, Barnes seems poised to take full advantage of regular playing time.

  • Nationals' Israel Pineda: Gets spot in roster pool

The Nationals added Pineda to their 60-man roster pool Sunday, David Driver of the Harrisonburg Daily News-Record reports.

The 20-year-old backstop spent most of the 2019 campaign at Low-A Hagerstown, slashing .217/.278/.305 over 411 plate appearances. He's not considered a major prospect in Washington's farm system and is likely just joining the roster pool to provide the organization with some extra depth behind the plate during simulated games at the team's alternate training site in Fredericksburg.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Making noise at satellite camp

Campusano has been impressive while training at the Padres' alternate site, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Campusano was included in the Padres' player pool after slashing .325/.396/.509 and winning co-MVP honors in the California League last season. Per Cassavell, the 21-year-old has been "red-hot" at the alternate site, hitting multiple "loud" home runs and strengthening his status as the team's catcher of the future. While Campusano wasn't expected to arrive in the big leagues until 2021, there is an outside chance that he could be called upon to help out the big-league club this season given the struggles of both Austin Hedges and Francisco Mejia (thumb) so far in 2020.

  • Giants' Chadwick Tromp: Sitting Tuesday

Tromp is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Angels, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Tromp has emerged as the primary catcher in San Francisco, starting eight of the last 12 games, though he hasn't done a ton at the plate, posting a .571 OPS. Tyler Heineman, who owns a .502 OPS, will get the start Tuesday.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Goes deep Monday

Hedges went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Monday's 14-4 rout over Texas.

Hedges did his part to contribute to San Diego's offensive outburst, slugging a solo homer to center field in the fourth inning. The 28-year-old is batting a tepid .143/.211/.314 on the season, though he has reached base four times -- three by walk -- over his last two games.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Snaps hitless streak

Contreras went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run scored and an RBI in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Contreras played a key role in a four-run sixth inning that rallied the Cubs to a 5-4 victory. His one-out double brought home Javier Baez and trimmed the St. Louis lead to 4-2. He then came around to score on David Bote's go-ahead three-run home run. It's been a tough few days for Contreras, who was ejected from Wednesday's game against Cleveland and came into Monday hitless in his last five contests. The streak extended to six games with an 0-for-2 showing in the first half of Monday's doubleheader. The 28-year-old backstop is now batting .231 with a .753 OPS, and both of those figures should continue to climb.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Placed on restricted list

Diaz was placed on the restricted list Monday for a violation of team protocols.

Diaz traveled with the Rockies to Houston for their road trip, but he'll be sidelined for violating team protocols. His absence isn't related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. It's unclear how much time he'll spend on the restricted list, but Tony Wolters and Drew Butera should handle the duties behind the plate in his absence. Right-hander Ashton Goudeau was recalled by the Rockies in a corresponding move.

  • Padres' Francisco Mejia: Lands on 10-day IL

Mejia (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday.

Mejia was revealed to have a left thumb contusion Monday, and his placement on the injured list will give him extra time to recover while allowing the Padres to add depth at catcher on the 28-man roster. Luis Torrens was recalled in a corresponding move, but Austin Hedges should handle the majority of the duties behind the plate while Mejia is sidelined.

  • Padres' Francisco Mejia: Dealing with left thumb injury

Mejia is dealing with a left thumb contusion Monday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Mejia wasn't in the lineup for Sunday's contest, but he's apparently dealing with an injury. It's unclear when or how he suffered the injury, but the Padres currently only have one other catcher (Austin Hedges) on the active roster. Whether the injury will require a stay on the injured list remains to be seen, but allowing Mejia time to recover would let the Padres add catching depth while he's on the mend. The 24-year-old is off to a slow start this season, hitting just .079 with two extra-base hits, two RBI and nine strikeouts over 16 games.

  • Cubs' Victor Caratini: Sitting in first game of twin bill

Caratini is out of the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.

Willson Contreras is catching the first game of the twin bill, but he'll presumably be deployed as the Cubs' designated hitter in the nightcap or sit out the contest entirely. As a result, expect Caratini to draw a start in the second game.
