Cubs' Willson Contreras: Pops two more home runs
Contreras went 3-for-3 with two solo home runs in Wednesday's scrimmage against the Twins.
Contreras has been on fire in summer camp, Counting intrasquad games as well as scrimmages against other clubs, the catcher now has six home runs. If Contreras can carry this into the regular season, he should be very productive over the 60-game slate.

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Makes major-league roster
Diaz will begin the season on the Rockies' 30-man roster, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Diaz was late in reporting to camp due to COVID-19 protocol, but he was able to return and impressed enough to secure the backup catcher job behind Tony Wolters. Diaz appeared in a career-high 102 games with the Pirates last season, slashing .241/.296/.307 with two home runs and 28 RBI.

Austin Barnes C | NYM
Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Starting exhibition matchup
Barnes (hand) is starting behind the plate and batting ninth in Tuesday's exhibition game against the Angels, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
The 30-year-old was hit on his left hand during Sunday's exhibition contest, but his quick return to the field indicates it isn't a serious issue. Barnes should be ready for Thursday's season opener against the Giants, and he's expected to serve as the backup catcher to starter Will Smith.

Dodgers' Keibert Ruiz: Logs pinch-hit appearance
Ruiz (undisclosed) singled in his only at-bat in Monday's exhibition contest against Arizona.
Ruiz was placed on the 10-day injured list July 16, but he has since reported to camp and was able to swing the bat against live pitching Monday. The backstop is not expected to make the Dodgers' Opening Day roster.

Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Catches bullpen session
Barnes tested his injured left hand by catching Clayton Kershaw's bullpen session Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
Barnes appears to have avoided a significant injury after getting plunked on his left hand in an exhibition game Sunday. In addition to catching the bullpen -- it bears mentioning that the affected hand is Barnes' glove hand -- the backstop was also slated to take batting practice Monday. He is expected to take part in the team's exhibition game against the Angels on Tuesday and should be good to go for Opening Day.

Barnes (hand) underwent an X-ray Sunday that came back negative, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Austin Barnes C | NYM
Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Exits with apparent injury
Barnes left Sunday's exhibition game with an apparent left hand injury, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
Barnes was hit by a pitch on his left hand in the bottom of the fourth inning, and he was replaced behind the dish in the fifth frame as a result. The exact nature and severity of the injury are unclear. If he's healthy, Barnes should serve as the Dodgers' backup catcher to begin the season, though comments made by manager Dave Roberts this spring suggest that Barnes and Will Smith could split time.

Victor Caratini C | MIN
Cubs' Victor Caratini: Could see more time at first
Caratini is an option to see regular time at first base early in the season with Anthony Rizzo (back) uncertain for the start of the year, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Caratini has primarily worked as a catcher for the Cubs, though he did appear in 23 games at first last year. The 26-year-old has been tabbed as the personal catcher for Yu Darvish, so he'll still get time behind the plate, but the team may need to use him more at first if Rizzo can't go in the early going. Caratini has looked pretty good at the plate when he's been able to play regularly, so fantasy managers should take note if the playing time is there.

Luke Maile C | KC
Pirates' Luke Maile: Out 10-12 weeks after surgery
Maile underwent surgery to address his fractured right index finger Friday and will be sidelined 10-12 weeks.
Maile was poised to operate as Pittsburgh's primary backup catcher this season, but the lengthy recovery timeline means he's unlikely to see the field during the shortened season. John Ryan Murphy should step into the backup job behind starter Jacob Stallings.

Andrew Knizner C | SEA
Cardinals' Andrew Knizner: Opportunity appears solid
Knizner has made a strong case to serve as a bat off the bench and potential third catcher during the regular season, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
As part of MLB's unique 2020 format, teams will be allowed to take a three-man taxi squad on road trips, and one of those players must be a catcher. That opens up an opportunity for Knizner, who Rogers points out could also be available for home games in a pinch-hit capacity or in-game replacement and as a bullpen catcher to warm up relievers. Additionally, the advanced age of Yadier Molina and Matt Wieters, the two backstops ahead of him on the depth chart, could also help lead to the occasional spot start for Knizner, who slashed .226/.293/.377 during his first taste of big-league action last season but also put together an impressive body of work as a hitter during his six minor-league stops.
