  • Orioles' Anthony Bemboom: Designated for assignment

Bemboom was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Thursday.

Baltimore kept three catchers around for a few days after James McCann returned from the injured list last weekend, but the team will now go back to the traditional two-catcher alignment. Bemboom will go through the waiver process, with the O's likely hoping he clears so he can stay around as depth at Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Rays' Christian Bethancourt: First multi-hit performance

Bethancourt went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and two runs scored Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Bethancourt has begun the season in an even split for playing time with Francisco Mejia behind the plate. He started his seventh game Wednesday and tallied his first multi-hit game of the campaign. Despite the step forward, Bethancourt has otherwise gotten off to a slow start with the bat and now has only four knocks across 22 at-bats with one homer, one RBI and six runs scored.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Sitting out Wednesday

Heim is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Sandy Leon will get a turn behind the plate while Heim sits out in what's presumably a maintenance day. Heim slugged his first two home runs of the season in the first two games of the series with Kansas City, including a walkoff three-run blast in Tuesday's 8-5 win in 10 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Taking Wednesday off

Kirk is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Danny Jansen will get a turn behind the plate while Kirk sits after starting at catcher in three of the Blue Jays' previous four games. Kirk is getting on base at a strong .344 clip so far this season, but aside from a respectable RBI total of six, he isn't providing much else in terms of fantasy numbers (.222 average, one home run, two runs, no stolen bases).

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Out of lineup Wednesday

Langeliers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

After hitting a three-run blast in Tuesday's loss, Langeliers will get a chance to rest in Wednesday's series finale. Carlos Perez will handle catching duties with Ken Waldichuk on the bump for the Athletics.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Receives breather Wednesday

Wong is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Wong is getting some maintenance after he caught each of Boston's last four games while going 2-for-13 with a double, a walk, two runs and two RBI. Reese McGuire is catching for starting pitcher Chris Sale on Wednesday.

  • Blake Sabol C | BOS

Giants' Blake Sabol: Notches steal in win

Sabol went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Dodgers.

The steal was Sabol's first at the big-league level. He stole a combined 10 bases between the Double-A and Triple-A circuits last season, so there's at least modest speed in his profile. The 25-year-old catcher/outfielder is slashing .194/.265/.290 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored through 34 plate appearances. With prospect Heliot Ramos in the majors, Sabol will likely serve as a backup to Joey Bart rather than a starter in left field.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Goes deep again

O'Hoppe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Tuesday in a 2-0 win against Washington.

Offense was sparse in the contest, and O'Hoppe provided half of the Angels' runs with his 414-foot solo shot in the sixth inning. The long ball was his fourth of the campaign, putting him atop the leaderboard among MLB catchers. Three of O'Hoppe's homers have come over his past five games, and he's knocked in four runs over that span.

  • Jose Herrera C | TEX

Diamondbacks' Jose Herrera: Behind the dish

Herrera is starting at catcher and batting ninth for the Diamondbacks in Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

It's the fourth start of the season for the backup catcher. Herrera is off to a 4-for-10 start at the plate.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Getting day off

Moreno is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Moreno appears to be receiving a standard rest day with the Diamondbacks and Brewers concluding their series with an afternoon contest. Jose Herrera will catch for starting pitcher Drey Jameson on Wednesday.
