Campusano (thumb) began catching pitches Friday for the first time since he went on the injured list, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

It's a significant step forward for Campusano, who has been on the shelf since mid-April because of a left thumb sprain. He was cleared to start swinging a bat earlier this week and seems to be tracking toward a return to the Padres sometime in mid-May. Austin Nola and Brett Sullivan are currently serving as the catching tandem for San Diego.

Wynns was activated to the Rockies' 26-man roster Friday.

Colorado claimed Wynns off waivers from the Dodgers on Thursday and will make him the new backup behind starting catcher Elias Diaz ahead of Friday's series opener against the Mets. Brian Serven has been optioned out to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Austin Wynns, claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on Thursday, will join the Rockies as the new backup to starting catcher Elias Diaz. Serven was just 3-for-23 (.130) with no walks and 10 strikeouts through 10 games this season with Colorado.

Alvarez isn't starting Friday against the Rockies.

Alvarez is batting .273 (3-for-11) over the last week, and he will get a day off Friday. While he sits, Tomas Nido will take over behind the plate and bat ninth.

McCann went 0-for-3 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 13-10 win over the Royals.

Following the trade that sent Luis Torrens to the Orioles, it appears more possible for McCann and Adley Rutschman to co-exist in the lineup between catcher and designated hitter. McCann has been in the lineup in four of the last six games, twice as the DH and twice as the catcher. He's slashing .225/.262/.400 with two home runs, one steal, five RBI, six runs scored and a double over 42 plate appearances this season.

D'Arnaud (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.

At last check, d'Arnaud was still awaiting full clearance from doctors to play in games. Evidently he has received it. The veteran catcher has missed nearly a month of action with concussion symptoms but should be ready for activation after knocking the rust off with a few rehab games.

Gomes (concussion) will go through conditioning and light baseball activities Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

It's a significant first step as Gomes eases back into things following a concussion. The veteran catcher will be eligible for activation May 9, but it's not yet clear whether he might have a shot to return that day.

Adams went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Thursday's win over the Cubs.

Making just his fifth start of the season, Adams failed to take advantage of one of his rare opportunities. Keibert Ruiz has handled the bulk of the action behind the plate this season for the Nationals, and Adams isn't making much of a case to see a bigger workload, going just 4-for-19 (.211) with a double and two RBI so far.

Perez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in a loss to the Orioles on Thursday.

Perez left Tuesday's game against Baltimore with a finger contusion, but he was back behind the plate Wednesday and served as KC's designated hitter Thursday. The veteran showed that the finger isn't hampering his swing when he swatted a two-run shot to right field in the third inning. Perez is up to six long balls on the campaign, putting him well on pace for his seventh straight full season with 20-plus homers.

Fermin went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a walk, two total runs and two total RBI in a loss to the Orioles on Thursday.

Fermin was called up to the big club Tuesday and got the start behind the plate. The 27-year-old enjoyed by far his best performance as a major-leaguer, as he had just one hit over 14 career plate appearances entering the contest. Fermin fell a double short of the cycle, hitting a solo homer to left field in the third inning, knocking a triple and scoring a run in the fourth, and finishing his day with an RBI single in the ninth. Fermin isn't going to supplant primary catcher Salvador Perez (who was the team's DH on Thursday) on a regular basis, but he appears lined up to be KC's backup backstop and could earn more opportunities to have his bat worked into the lineup. He was excellent at the Triple-A level prior to his promotion, slashing .304/.448/.674 with five homers and 14 RBI across 58 plate appearances.
