  • Luke Maile C | KC

Guardians' Luke Maile: Pitiful hitting in June

Maile has gone 1-for-20 (.050) in nine games in June.

Maile's playing time is already fairly limited to begin with, and his recent performances have inspired no confidence. The 31-year-old has a .213/.304/.319 slash line with five RBI, eight runs scored and a 7:14 BB:K through 56 plate appearances this season. Austin Hedges will see most of the time behind the dish, while Maile will step in for starts once or twice a week.

  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Two extra-base hits

Maldonado went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI and one run scored Wednesday against the Rangers.

Maldonado capped off a six-run first inning for the Astros with a two-RBI double. He then led off the fourth frame by going yard to tally his fifth home run of the season. Maldonado has now recorded multiple hits in three of his last four starts, but he is still hitting just .160/.228/.306 across 160 plate appearances on the season.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Delivers first career homer, RBI

Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Wednesday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays.

Rutschman checked off a couple of milestones Wednesday, hitting his first career homer and his first two RBI in the fourth inning. This was the catcher's fourth multi-hit effort in 21 contests this season. He's still slashing a shaky .192/.267/.321 while adding nine runs scored, five doubles and a triple through 86 plate appearances, but perhaps this is the spark he needs to up his game at the major-league level.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

Angels' Max Stassi: Not starting Wednesday

Stassi is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Stassi has started four of the past five games and will receive Wednesday off. Kurt Suzuki will start behind the plate and bat seventh.

  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Remains on bench Wednesday

Nola is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Nola and Jorge Alfaro have alternated starts over the past 20 games, but Alfaro will start for the second straight contest after going 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk and an additional run scored Tuesday. Nola has a .250/.379/.250 slash line through seven games in June, so the timeshare behind the plate is unlikely to change anytime soon.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Gets breather Wednesday

Narvaez isn't starting Wednesday against the Mets.

Narvaez will get a day off after he went 3-for-7 with a strikeout over the last two games. Victor Caratini is starting behind the plate and batting seventh.

  • Guardians' Austin Hedges: Steps out of lineup

Hedges is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game at Colorado.

Hedges started the past two games and will receive a breather Wednesday. Luke Maile will take over behind the dish for Cleveland.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Not starting Wednesday

Vazquez isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Vazquez drew the start in Tuesday's series opener against Oakland and went 1-for-4 with a run. He'll be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games while Kevin Plawecki starts behind the dish and bats eighth.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: Beginning rehab assignment Thursday

McCann (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Binghamton on Thursday, Tim Britton of The Athletic report.

McCann has been sidelined for just over a month due to a broken wrist, but he's been cleared to return to game action in the minors. While the 32-year-old will likely require several rehab games given the length of his absence, he seems to be on track to return from the injured list sometime in late June.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Sits in favor of Contreras

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Washington.

D'Arnaud will take a seat after catching both of Atlanta's last two games, allowing William Contreras to get a turn behind the dish. Though he still looks like Atlanta's No. 1 backstop, d'Arnaud will likely end up sitting two or three times per week while Contreras' potent bat has allowed him to earn playing time.
