A foul ball connected with Ruiz's head during Monday's contest, though after evaluation, it seems he managed to escape the incident with only a bruise. Shea Langeliers C | ATH
Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Set to begin rehab assignment
Langeliers (oblique) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Langeliers has been on the shelf since June 6 while recovering from a left oblique strain, but he appears to be on the cusp of a return to action. The catcher will likely require at least a couple of rehab games to regain his timing at the plate, but once activated from the 10-day injured list, he should reclaim his usual duties as the Athletics' No. 1 backstop. Austin Wynns and Willie MacIver have been splitting playing time at the position since Langeliers was deactivated.

Victor Caratini C | MIN
Astros' Victor Caratini: Out of lineup Tuesday
Caratini is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Phillies.
Caratini has played more often than not since Yordan Alvarez (hand) was injured, rotating between designated hitter, catcher and occasionally first base. He'll take a seat Tuesday, though, as Jose Altuve serves as the Astros' DH and Yainer Diaz does the catching.

Amaya (oblique) has started a hitting program, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Amaya began a throwing program June 15, and he has now started to do work from the plate as well. Manager Craig Counsell said Monday that the team is targeting a return for the catcher around the All-Star break. Carson Kelly C | CHC
Cubs' Carson Kelly: Returns to lineup Monday
Kelly is starting at catcher and batting sixth in Monday's game against the Cardinals.
After getting a breather Sunday, Kelly will return to the lineup to face lefty starter Matthew Liberatore in St. Louis. Kelly's current backup, Reese McGuire, launched his fourth home run of the year Sunday in only 12 games, while Kelly has been slumping recently. The latter should remain Chicago's top catcher as long as Miguel Amaya (oblique) is sidelined, but McGuire could carve out a larger role in the short term if he stays hot and Kelly continues to struggle.
