  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Slated for Arizona Fall League

Campusano will play for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Campusano, the 2019 California League co-MVP, has put together a .325/.396/.512 slash line with 15 homers and 81 RBI in 109 games with High-A Lake Elsinore this season. The assignment to the AFL will allow him to further hone his skills among many of the other top prospects in baseball.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Nearing rehab assignment

Manager Joe Maddon said Contreras (hamstring) is "very close" to beginning a minor-league rehab assignment, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Contreras has been sidelined for most of August with a strained right hamstring. He's been slowly ramping up his activities and could be cleared for game action later this week or early next week, if all goes as planned. It remains to be seen how many rehab games Contreras will need to appear in before being cleared to rejoin the Cubs, but he's trending towards a return in early-to-mid-September.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Sitting for series finale

Smith is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Padres.

Smith has impressed across 33 games with the Dodgers this season, slashing .298/.370/.721 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI. He'll sit for Wednesday's series finale after starting the past two games, with Russell Martin starting behind the dish in his stead.

  • Padres' Francisco Mejia: Gets breather

Mejia is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Mejia will give way to Austin Hedges behind the dish for Wednesday's series finale after starting the previous two games. Since the start of August, the 23-year-old backstop is hitting .338 with four home runs and a .970 OPS.

  • James McCann C | ARI

White Sox's James McCann: Resting Wednesday

McCann is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Twins.

McCann has just three hits in his last six games but still has a surprisingly strong .282/.332/.469 slash line on the season. Welington Castillo will start behind the plate in his absence.

  • Jake Rogers C | CHW

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Day off Wednesday

Rogers will not start Wednesday's game against Cleveland.

Rogers has just a single hit in his last 10 games, striking out 54.1 percent of the time over that stretch. John Hicks gets the call behind the plate.

  • Rays' Travis d'Arnaud: Heads to bench

D'Arnaud is not starting Wednesday against the Astros, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

D'Arnaud has hit just .189/.237/.226 over his last 15 games. Mike Zunino gets the call behind the plate in his absence.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Cracks 21st homer

Perez went 1-for-4 with a home run, walk and two RBI in Tuesday's 10-1 win over the Tigers.

Perez's 21 home runs trail only Gary Sanchez (29) and Mitch Garver (23) among all catcher-eligible players, but the 30-year-old's slugging pace has slowed considerably in the second half. The veteran is slashing .165/.248/.322 with five home runs in 34 games since the All-Star break.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Mariners' Omar Narvaez: Takes seat for afternoon game

Narvaez is not starting Wednesday against the Yankees, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Narvaez has started the past six games -- two at DH and four behind the dish -- but he'll head to the bench for Wednesday's series finale with the Mariners playing in the afternoon following a night game. Over his past 10 games, Narvaez is slashing .243/.326/.459 with two home runs, six RBI and a 5:7 BB:K. Tom Murphy is starting behind the dish in his place against lefty James Paxton.

  • Brewers' Yasmani Grandal: Breaks home-run drought

Grandal went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Tuesday in the Brewers' 6-3 loss to the Cardinals.

Grandal trimmed the Brewers' deficit to one with a 400-foot blast off Andrew Miller in the eighth inning, ending an 11-game home-run drought. The long ball was just his second since the All-Star break, with the extended power outage taking some of the luster off of what had been shaping up as the best season of his career. Grandal has at least remained a major asset in OBP-only leagues in the second half, reaching base at a stellar .392 clip.
