  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Gets day off

Barnes is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Giants, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Barnes will give way to Russell Martin behind the dish Wednesday after starting the past two games. Since the returning from the injured list earlier in the month, Barnes is slashing just .087/.125/.087 in eight games.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Takes seat Wednesday

Garver is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Garver will head to the bench for Wednesday's series finale after playing all 17 innings during Tuesday's 4-3 win, going 1-for-7 with a double and a walk in the process. Jason Castro is starting behind the dish in this one.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Takes seat for Game 2

Realmuto is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Nationals.

Realmuto will give way to Andrew Knapp behind the dish for the second game of Wednesday's twin bill after catching all nine innings and going 0-for-4 during Game 1.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Sitting for Game 2

Gomes is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Phillies.

Gomes will take a seat for the second game of Wednesday's twin bill after going 0-for-2 with a pair of walks in Washington's 6-2 win in Game 1. Kurt Suzuki is starting behind the dish and hitting seventh in Game 2.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: On bench Wednesday

Vazquez is on the bench Wednesday against the Twins, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Vazquez and Sandy Leon have alternated starts behind the plate over the last six games. Leon gets the call Wednesday.

  • Royals' Martin Maldonado: Heads to bench

Maldonado is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City reports.

Maldonado sits for just the second time in the last 10 games. Cam Gallagher will take over behind the plate.

  • Elias Diaz C | TEX

Pirates' Elias Diaz: Hits keep coming

Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double against the Tigers on Tuesday.

He's hitting .330 with one homer and 16 RBI in 100 at-bats since May 16. While it's possible that Francisco Cervelli (concussion) returns in a couple weeks and takes away some of Diaz's playing time, Cervelli is unlikely to re-sign with Pittsburgh when he becomes a free agent following season's end. Diaz has compiled only 10 extra-base hits (nine doubles, one homer) in 146 plate appearances, but look for the power numbers to increase, considering he belted 10 homers in 277 plate appearances a year ago.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Remains out Wednesday

Hedges is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers.

Hedges is slashing just .158/.220/.184 with a 39 percent strikeout rate since the start of June (11 games), so he'll stick on the bench for a second straight game as Francisco Mejia gets another start behind the dish.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Sitting Wednesday

Barnhart is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

The Reds have been withholding Barnhart from the lineup against left-handed pitchers more frequently, but his absence from the starting nine in the series finale is probably the result of two teams playing a day game after a night game. Curt Casali will check in behind the dish Wednesday and will bat eighth.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Back in action

Realmuto (groin) will start at catcher and bat fifth for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Nationals, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Back-to-back postponements Monday and Tuesday resulted in Realmuto missing just one start while he tended to the groin injury he sustained in a game Saturday against the Braves. The Phillies' decision not to bring up another catcher to serve as the 26th man for the twin bill implies the club isn't concerned about Realmuto's availability moving forward. Realmuto is scheduled to sit out Wednesday's nightcap, however.
