    Tigers' James McCann: Receives breather Sunday

    McCann is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

    McCann will head to the bench after starting the last two games and is 1-for-18 in his last 19 plate appearances. Grayson Greiner will start behind the plate and bat seventh for the Tigers in the series finale.

    Realmuto is not starting Sunday against the Reds, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.

    Realmuto will sit for the first time in a week. He's kept up his high level of performance as the season draws to a close, hitting .296 with a .941 OPS and five homers in his last 21 games. Chad Wallach will start behind the plate.

    Pirates' Elias Diaz: Back in lineup

    Diaz (hamstring) is back in the lineup Sunday against Milwaukee.

    Diaz is set to make his first start since Aug. 31, though he was able to appear off the bench in two of the last four contests. He'll bat fourth and catch Sunday.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Leaves yard in loss

    Perez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Tigers on Saturday.

    Perez took Tigers closer Shane Greene deep in the ninth inning, but Kansas City failed to deliver further offense against him. The backstop has homered 27 times and plated 77 runs this season to prop up a sluggish .232/.272/.438 line.

  • Dodgers' Yasmani Grandal: Smacks 24th homer

    Grandal went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday against the Padres.

    Grandal took Brad Wieck deep in the sixth inning to record his 24th home run of the season. It was only his second long ball since Aug. 29, though he has still managed to drive in eight runs in that span. He remains on course to post his third consecutive season with a slugging percentage north of .450.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Bows out of starting nine

    Vazquez isn't in Saturday's starting lineup against the Indians, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports.

    Vazquez is set for a second straight day off with Boston having already locked up the division title. Blake Swihart will slot in behind the dish and bat eighth.

    Maldonado is not in Saturday's starting nine against the Angels, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports.

    Maldonado will get the day off after collecting two base knocks and scoring a run in the series opener. Brian McCann is slated to handle the catching duties and bat seventh.

    Indians' Yan Gomes: Three-hit game with home run

    Gomes went 3-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer in Friday's loss to the Red Sox.

    Gomes hit a two-run home run -- his 15th of the year -- off reliever Heath Hembree and later slashed his 24th double off Hector Velazquez. Gomes is hitting .326 with three homers and six RBI in his last 12 games and has secured a hit in six straight games. Overall the backstop is slashing .266/.313/.445 with 46 RBI and 50 runs in 107 games this year.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Gets breather Friday

    Hedges is not in Friday's starting lineup against the Dodgers.

    Hedges is slated for another day off after sitting out Wednesday and getting a scheduled off day Thursday. Francisco Mejia will handle the catching duties and bat fifth in his stead.
