  • Luke Maile C | KC

Rays' Luke Maile: Out of Sunday's lineup

Maile is out of the lineup Sunday against the Yankees, MLB.com's Bill Chastain reports.

Maile has been receiving the majority of the starts behind the plate since the All-Star break, but with a .167/.224/.204 batting line during that span, he might be starting to feel some pressure from Bobby Wilson, who gets the nod Sunday. Both backstops have now seen three starts each over the last six games.

  • Dodgers' Yasmani Grandal: Out of Saturday's lineup

Grandal is out of the lineup Saturday against the Pirates.

The Dodgers' starting catcher is hitting .284/.422/.612 with six home runs in 67 at-bats in the second half of the season. He will get Saturday's day game off after starting the last four games behind the dish. A.J. Ellis will start at catcher and hit eighth Saturday.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

White Sox's Omar Narvaez: Could see an increase in playing time

Narvaez could see more playing time down the stretch, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The White Sox have little to play for in 2016, so they can use the season's waning weeks to see if Narvaez may be an answer to their long-term catching question. Friday's start was Narvaez's second in three games, and he drew three walks in a win over the Marlins.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Contributes three-run homer to Friday blowout

Contreras went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer and two runs scored overall in Friday's 13-2 victory over the Cardinals.

The 24-year-old capped off a five-run second for the Cubs by plating Jorge Soler and Addison Russell with a 416-foot shot to left center, his second homer in the last four games. Contreras has also hit safely in four straight and boasts a .345 average (10-for-29) with two homers and six RBI in the nine August games he's been active for.

  • Sandy Leon C | ATL

Red Sox's Sandy Leon: Not in Friday's lineup

Leon is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports.

Leon will get a regular day off after starting the past three games behind the plate. Bryan Holaday will take his place, batting eighth.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Out of lineup Friday

Sanchez is not in Friday's lineup against the Rays.

Sanchez will be out of the lineup after starting seven of the past eight games. He will be replaced by Alex Rodriguez, who will be manning the DH spot for his final game as a Yankee, and Brian McCann behind the plate.

  • Diamondbacks' Tuffy Gosewisch: Enjoys big day in Big Apple

Gosewisch went 2-for-5 with a triple and a home run, his second of the year, in Thursday's win over the Mets.

The backup catcher hit his first career triple off Noah Syndergaard in the fifth inning, and followed that up with his third career homer to lead off the sixth against Jonathon Niese. Gosewisch is slashing .182/.213/.364 through 44 at-bats, but his days are limited as Chris Herrmann (hamstring) is progressing nicely through his rehab program.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Indians' Yan Gomes: Resumes baseball activites

Gomes (shoulder) has begun to participate in light baseball activities, but still has a ways to go before returning to the field, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Gomes landed on the DL on July 18, and will still likely be out another couple weeks as he has only just began baseball activities Thursday. He will need time to go on a rehab assignment, and with a separated AC joint in his right shoulder, the team will need to be cautious with him as he could potentially be out another month. Roberto Perez and Chris Gimenez have been filling in behind the plate, and will continue to do so until he returns.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Not in Thursday's lineup

Contreras is out of the lineup against the Cardinals on Thursday.

Contreras will get the day off Thursday after starting the past four games. In his place, David Ross will catch Jon Lester while batting eighth.

  • Brewers' Martin Maldonado: Out of Thursday's lineup

Maldonado is out of Thursday's lineup against the Braves.

He will get his second day off over the last three games, making way for Manny Pina, who is batting eighth Thursday. With Andrew Susac likely to join the Brewers at some point before the end of the season, Maldonado's run as the starting backstop could be short-lived.
