Diaz is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Angels on Wednesday.

Diaz will ride the pine for a second straight game while Martin Maldonado starts behind home plate and bats ninth. Diaz has gone 8-for-25 with a solo home run and six runs scored since the beginning of May.

Alvarez is not in the Mets' starting lineup against the Pirates on Wednesday.

Alvarez will get a breather after going 0-for-6 with a walk and two strikeouts over the first two games of the series. Luis Torrens (groin) will work behind home plate and bat out of the sixth spot Wednesday.

Torrens suffered a groin injury during Sunday's win over the Cubs, but with two days rest he's back in the Mets' lineup Wednesday. He is slashing .247/.313/.425 with four runs scored, one home run and 11 RBI over 80 plate appearances this season.

Rortvedt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

Though he had seemed to be moving into the strong side of a platoon at catcher with Danny Jansen, the left-handed-hitting Rortvedt will end up hitting the bench Wednesday for a third straight matchup versus a right-handed starting pitcher. Rortvedt is heralded for his defense behind the plate and his quick pop time, but he's been an easy out at the plate this season with a .196 on-base percentage.

Kirk (head) will start at catcher and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Kirk was pulled from his last start in Sunday's 9-1 win over the Mariners after he was inadvertently hit in the head by Julio Rodriguez's bat while catching, but the backstop passed all subsequent concussion tests. The Blue Jays still elected to hold Kirk out of the lineup for Tuesday's series opener versus the Rays, but he's ready to go for Wednesday's contest. Kirk maintains a .286 batting average to go with two home runs and 13 RBI over 31 games on the season.

The Dodgers designated Barnes for assignment Wednesday.

Barnes will cede his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to Dalton Rushing, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 35-year-old has played sparingly this season and slashed only .214/.233/.286 in 13 contests. He had been the Dodgers' longest-tenured position player.

With Austin Barnes having been designated for assignment in a corresponding move, Rushing will pick up some starts at catcher on days that Will Smith has off. However, most of his playing time could come in the outfield, where Michael Conforto has struggled and Teoscar Hernandez (groin) and Tommy Edman (ankle) are currently out of the mix. Rushing is also capable of playing first base, but at-bats will be hard to come by at the position with Freddie Freeman entrenched atop the depth chart. Rushing has slashed .308/.424/.514 with five home runs and a 29:21 K:BB over 132 plate appearances this season with Oklahoma City.

Rutschman is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Twins.

Rutschman will receive a breather for the second game of the day after he went 0-for-3 with a walk while catching all nine innings of the Orioles' 6-3 loss in Game 1. Maverick Handley will replace him behind the dish in Game 2.

Narvaez will start at catcher and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

He'll get the nod behind the plate for the fourth time in five games and seems to have taken over as the Red Sox's preferred backstop ahead of Connor Wong, who is batting just .146 on the season. Narvaez has performed well at the dish, especially by catcher's standards, throughout the campaign, slashing .260/.313/.433 with four home runs and 14 RBI across 112 plate appearances.

Wong is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

The 28-year-old will hit the bench for the fourth time in five games and looks to have at least temporarily fallen behind Carlos Narvaez on the depth chart at catcher. Wong produced a respectable .758 OPS over 487 plate appearances with Boston in 2024 but has struggled to find a rhythm at the plate since rejoining the big club May 2 following a stint on the injured list due to a broken finger. He's gone just 4-for-18 with one walk against six strikeouts since being activated and is slashing .146/.239/.146 overall on the season.
