  • Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Back as DH by late April

Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Tuesday that Basallo (hamstring/elbow) could be ready to serve as a designated hitter with Triple-A Norfolk within a couple weeks, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

He would then be ready to resume catching sometime in May. Basallo is sidelined by a mild left hamstring strain and also has some right elbow inflammation. The top prospect put up an .868 OPS with a pair of home runs in his first seven contests with Norfolk before going on the 7-day injured list.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Pirates' Joey Bart: Will go through tests pregame

Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Bart (back) will go through tests pregame Tuesday to determine his status, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Bart is missing a fourth straight start Tuesday due to lower-back soreness. The Pirates have added catcher Abrahan Gutierrez to their taxi squad in case a roster move involving Bart is required. The club is already without Endy Rodriguez (finger), leaving Henry Davis to start Tuesday's game.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Pirates' Joey Bart: Remains out of action Tuesday

Bart (back) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Nationals.

Bart will miss a fourth straight start due to lower-back discomfort. He was said to be available off the bench Monday and should be again Tuesday. The Pirates did not call up a catcher to take the roster spot of the injured Endy Rodriguez (finger), suggesting Bart's return to the lineup is imminent. Henry Davis will start at catcher and bat ninth Tuesday.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: One week away from rehab assignment

Reds manager Terry Francona said Tuesday that Stephenson (oblique) could begin a rehab assignment in one week, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports.

Stephenson strained his left oblique back in mid-March but appears to nearly be game-ready. He will require a handful of rehab contests to knock the rust off but should be ready for his season debut before the end of April if all goes well.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Goes yard again Monday

Murphy went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Monday's win over the Blue Jays.

The backstop took Easton Lucas deep in the first inning, the first of three Atlanta homers off the southpaw. Murphy is very quickly erasing memories of his rough 2024 campaign -- after homering 10 times in 72 contests last year, he's already launched four long balls in his first six games of 2025.

  • Hunter Goodman RF | COL

Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Belts homer in loss

Goodman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Dodgers on Monday.

Goodman brought Colorado to within two runs with his two-run blast to center field in the seventh inning, but that was the final time either team crossed the plate. The third-year catcher began the season on a strong foot with a .368 average and two homers over his first five games, but he tailed off after that -- Monday's long ball snapped an eight-game homerless streak during which he went just 2-for-24 at the plate. Goodman's big power makes him an attractive fantasy target though, and he's seeing plenty of action as Colorado's primary backstop this season.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Avoids fracture

X-rays on Vazquez's right hand came back negative Monday, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

Vazquez suffered an injury to his right hand during Monday's game against the Mets after being hit by a foul tip, but he appears to have avoided a serious injury. The club will likely re-evaluate the backstop Tuesday morning to determine his availability moving forward.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Knocks third homer

Wells went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's win against Kansas City.

Wells was the fourth and final Yankee to knock a solo shot off Seth Lugo in Monday's victory. After homering in his first two appearances of 2025, Wells was stuck in a 7-for-38 (.184) skid heading into Monday. He's now slashing .208/.278/.479 with six extra-base hits and seven RBI through 54 plate appearances.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Departs early with injury

Vazquez exited Monday's game against the Mets after appearing to injure his right hand on a foul tip, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Vazquez is likely headed for X-rays to determine the extent of the injury. Mickey Gasper took over behind the dish, and it would be up to Ryan Jeffers and Gasper to cover the catching duties if Vazquez is forced to miss additional time.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Not starting Monday

Kelly (hand) isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Padres.

Kelly underwent X-rays on his catching hand after being struck by a pitch during Sunday's matchup with the Dodgers, and while the tests came back negative, he won't draw the start behind the plate in Monday's series opener. Miguel Amaya will bat eighth in Kelly's absence.
