    Astros' Yainer Diaz: Moving closer to rehab assignment

    Astros general manager Dana Brown said Sunday that Diaz (oblique) is expected to begin a rehab assignment during the first week of June, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

    Per MLB.com, Diaz is in the midst of a running and hitting progression as he works his way back from a left oblique strain, which sent him to the injured list May 5. He looks as though he could be ready to hit against live pitching at some point during the upcoming week, and if all goes well, the Astros could map out a rehab assignment for the 27-year-old backstop soon thereafter. Christian Vazquez has been serving as Houston's primary catcher since Diaz hit the shelf.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Out again Sunday

    O'Hoppe (head) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

    O'Hoppe passed concussion tests after colliding with the Rangers' Josh Jung during a play at the plate in Friday's series opener, but the Angels will choose to hold him out of the starting nine for the second straight game as a matter of precaution. Sebastian Rivero will get the nod at catcher Sunday as O'Hoppe sets his sights on a return to the lineup Tuesday in Detroit.

    Moreno is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

    The Diamondbacks will rest Moreno after the 26-year-old backstop was behind the plate for each of the first three games of the series. Aramis Garcia will handle catching duties Sunday in Moreno's stead.

    With southpaw Framber Valdez taking the hill for the Tigers in the first game of the twin bill, Basallo will be given a breather while Baltimore goes with Adley Rutschman behind the plate and Taylor Ward at designated hitter. Basallo will most likely handle catching duties for the Orioles in the nightcap.
