The Rangers signed Wynns to a minor-league contract Tuesday.

The 35-year-old Wynns is a career .228/.273/.342 hitter covering parts of eight major-league seasons. He will give the Rangers some experienced catching depth at Triple-A Round Rock.

The Rays designated Keegan for assignment Tuesday.

Keegan has been removed from the 40-man roster to make space for Chris Roycroft, who was acquired via trade. Keegan has hit .191/.327/.303 with six home runs in 51 games at Triple-A Durham this season. The catcher could pass through waivers and remain in the organization.

Knizner agreed to a minor-league contract with the Red Sox on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

After failing to crack the Mariners' Opening Day roster this spring, Knizner joined the Rockies on a minor-league deal and had a .961 OPS with 10 homers in 33 games with Triple-A Albuquerque before being released last week. The 31-year-old doesn't have a clear path to joining the big-league club since Boston already has three catchers on the 26-man roster.

Stephenson is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Brewers.

Stephenson will get some rest after starting at catcher in the Reds' previous two contests. Jose Trevino will be behind the dish and bat eighth.

Jeffers (hand) was spotted taking swings in the batting cage and catching a bullpen session Monday, Theodore Tollefson of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Jeffers appears to be making good progress in his recovery from left hand surgery, but he'll still need to resume facing live pitching in batting practice before the Twins map out a rehab assignment for the 29-year-old catcher. While Jeffers has been on the shelf, Victor Caratini has stepped in admirably as the Twins' No. 1 catcher, producing a .906 OPS since Jeffers was deactivated May 19.

The Yankees recalled Escarra from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

Escarra was just sent down this past weekend, but he's back with the big club to take the roster spot vacated by Ali Sanchez (paternity). The 31-year-old will serve as the backup catcher behind Austin Wells while Sanchez is away for the next couple days.

The Yankees placed Sanchez (wrist) on the paternity leave list Tuesday.

Sanchez will be away from the club for a few days while welcoming a new baby to the family. The catcher exited Monday's contest versus the Tigers after being hit on the right wrist by a pitch. X-rays came back clean, but Sanchez still needs to undergo a CT scan, so it's possible he'll need to miss additional time after he's back from paternity leave.

Sanchez took X-rays immediately following his early departure from Monday's game which came back negative, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

After being replaced by Austin Wells in the top of the seventh, Sanchez's X-rays on his right wrist came back negative. Manager Aaron Boone said the catcher will go for a CT scan and is hopeful that this is just a "day to day thing."

The Orioles selected Tromp's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

Tromp will meet the big-league club in Los Angeles for their three-game series against the Angels. The 31-year-old will join his second major league team this season after playing in 12 games for Atlanta, registering 27 plate appearances prior to signing with Baltimore on June 10. The Orioles designated Michael Siani to make room for Tromp on the roster.

Rushing left Monday's game against Minnesota early to rule out a concussion.

The Dodgers replaced Rushing early on in Monday's game to rule out a concussion after he was hit in the head with a foul ball. The Dodgers are already thin at catching depth with Will Smith (neck) on the injured list since June 11.
