  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Exits with hand injury

Contreras was removed from Tuesday's game against the Mets with an apparent left hand injury, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Contreras was hit in the hand by a J.D. Martinez swing during the second inning of Tuesday's contest, and he appeared to be in a significant amount of pain before walking off the field. The 31-year-old backstop will almost certainly go in for X-rays, and the Cardinals should offer an update on his status in the near future.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Nearing light activity

Bailey (concussion) could start light baseball activity Wednesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Bailey was placed on the 7-day injured list with a concussion Saturday and is now on the cusp of returning to log some activity on the field, according to manager Bob Melvin. The catcher will need to ramp up his work over a few days before he'd potentially be able to return to the lineup. In the meantime, Blake Sabol will likely continue to handle most the work behind the plate due to Tom Murphy (knee) also being unavailable.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Battling illness

Moreno isn't in the Diamondbacks' lineup Tuesday against the Reds due to an illness, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Manager Torey Lovullo said Moreno will be available off the bench Tuesday, but the Diamondbacks will likely do everything they can to give him the day off to rest. Tucker Barnhart is starting behind the plate and batting eighth in Moreno's place.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Receiving Tuesday off

Raliegh is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.

Raleigh started the previous four games and will receive a day off after going 2-for-15 with two homers during that stretch. Seby Zavala will take over behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Day off Tuesday

Campusano is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs.

Campusano will hand over catching duties to Kyle Higashioka for the second time in the last three days. After enduring a 1-for-13 (.076) stretch at the plate, Campusano has rebounded with hits in three straight games, tallying five RBI and a pair of runs scored in that stretch.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: On bench Tuesday

Wong is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Atlanta, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

It's the second straight game on the bench for Wong, which is surprising given he's been one of the most productive catchers in baseball with a .950 OPS. Reese McGuire went 2-for-4 with a double and stolen base Sunday and is making his second consecutive start behind the plate Tuesday.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: On bench again

Moreno is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Moreno will cede catching duties to Tucker Barnhart for a second consecutive game Tuesday. Moreno is slashing .241/.340/.322 with a 12 percent strikeout rate through 100 plate appearances.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Taking seat Tuesday

Realmuto is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Blue Jays.

It's a rare day off for Realmuto, who has reached base eight times over the last three games. Garrett Stubbs will get a start behind the plate for the Phillies.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Langeliers is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

Langeliers went 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run and three RBI against Miami on Saturday but is otherwise 0-for-10 over his past four contests. Kyle McCann will step in behind the plate to catch for righty Ross Stripling on Tuesday.

  • Guardians' Ralphy Velazquez: Full-time first baseman

Velazquez has started 21 games at first base and zero games at catcher thus far for Single-A Lynchburg.

Velazquez was drafted with the 23rd overall pick last year as a bat-first catcher who might move to first base, and that transition has already taken place before his 19th birthday later this month. The lefty-hitting slugger may indeed offer the requisite offensive impact for first base, as he is slashing .264/.343/.505 with six home runs, a .242 ISO and a 20 percent strikeout rate in 105 plate appearances for the Hillcats as one of the youngest hitters in the Carolina League.
